ABSTRACT: This paper attempts to analysis the hidden risks behind the high population density in Macau, try to discuss the influence and objective of the land reclaiming, and intend to find out the economic problem under the 16th consecutive monthly gambling income decrease.

As far as I can see, real estate industry is a latent crisis in Macau. Neither new government public house nor commercial houses would feed growing populations. Young people have been laboring under housing difficulties for several years and suffering from an affordable-housing shortage. The latest data shows the average price of a home in Macau reached 99,795 patacas per square meter in 2014, increase by 22% compared with the number in 2013, whereas the median monthly wage is 13300, increase by 10.83% compared with the previous year. Wage growth quickly, however, is far from the growth of real estate. People can’t afford the high housing price in their wages.
Beyond that, as populations grows, the need for education, medical insurance and public transport increase. The benefits have been dilutive to ever-increasing population. As an individual, People would feel some difference. Especially, public transportation is becoming more and more crowed recent years when we commute to university, also resulted in the increase of time we take on road. The population of Macau has maintained sharply raised in recent years as well as the population density, especially, there were many refugees escaped to Macau from Guangdong and Fujian during the World War II and Cultural Revolution. Macau was too much tiny to afford the growth of population. In this condition, People don’t have enough houses and living place. Hence, government had to compromise to the basic need of people and use land reclaiming to solve this problem. Other sides, this city requires more land to develop its tourist economy, need land to build airport and new port to make convenience for passengers, need more land to build new resort to attract more tourists and make them always feel fresh.
