Poseidon an Aquaman
Poseidon, the God of the sea is one of the most powerful Gods in Greek Mythology. “The son of Cronus and Rhea, Poseidon is one of six siblings who eventually divided the power of the world. His brothers and sisters include: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Zeus. The division of the universe involved him and his brothers, Zeus and Hades. Poseidon became ruler of the sea, Zeus ruled the sky, and Hades got the underworld. The other divinities attributed to Poseidon involve the god of earthquakes and the god of horses.” From Poseidon came the super hero known as Aquaman. Born Orin he was the son of the queen of Atlantis and later became King of Atlantis. The super hero Aquaman was inspired by the god of the sea, Poseidon was the bases for the charter Aquaman. In the comic Superman: Our Worlds at War trade paperback, Aqua prays to Poseidon “Father Neptune (Roman for Poseidon)! Grant me the strength to vanquish the foes of Atlantis! --And to protect the Kingdom of the Seven Seas! THY WILL BE DONE!” Originally created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger they made an individual that represents what Poseidon was to the Greeks and Romans in their time. With Aquaman being the spawn of Poseidon they will share many characteristics.
Poseidon and Aquaman share similar roles and features as they both live in the ocean, and alone have the responsibility of the all the oceans which is most of the world. They differ in how go about handling this responsibility. Poseidon takes care of the sea and all who travels it. Just as Aquaman. But Aquaman is hero not a god, therefore he has more respect for land dwellers he would stand up for justice and sacrifice his wellbeing. On the other hand Poseidon is a god not a hero, he has absolute rule over his domain, therefore can rule as he sees fit. Poseidon is greatly respected by the Greek and the respect they give him at times is fueled by fear.” Poseidon often used his powers of earthquakes, water, and horses to inflict fear and punishment on people as revenge.” “Poseidon was relied upon by sailors for a safe voyage on the sea. Many men drowned horses in sacrifice of his honor... However, Poseidon was a very moody divinity, and his temperament could sometimes result in violence. When he was in a good mood, Poseidon created new lands in the water and a calm sea. In contrast, when he was in a bad mood, Poseidon would strike the ground with a trident and cause unruly springs and earthquakes, ship wrecks, and drownings.” His actions were dependent on his emotions, which was normal for all Greek Gods. But as a hero and part human Aquaman controled his emotions and always did what he thought was right.
How these two are represented and portrayed is closely linked. “Symbols associated with Poseidon include: dolphins, tridents, and three-pronged fish spears,” similar to Aquaman. Poseidon has the ability to take any form he wants, and in many pictures and paintings of him he has the body man and the lower half a green fish tale. Aqua man has legs like a human but they are covered with green fish scales similar to the scales on Poseidon. When aqua man was originally introduce he was cleanly groomed, small with muscles the size of an average man. But as time went on Aquaman’s appearance started to closely resemble Poseidon in his human form. Aquaman grew bigger muscle longer hair and a beard. In some paintings from the waist up Aqua man and Poseidon virtual look the same. The two of them live in similar fashions as well. Poseidon being a Greek God lives on Mt. Olympus but also lived and built his kingdom underneath the Aegean Sea. A kingdom made of coal and pearls and was mainly populated by mermaids and other sea creatures. Similar to Atlantis the kingdom Aquaman rule over except it full filled with his people the Atlantans. What is also similar between the two is their power. Since Poseidon is a god his powers are greater hen Aquaman’s. All Greek gods are immortal and can take any form they please; he controls the sea, earthquakes, has amazing strength and stamina and can use his trident as a power weapon. As for Aquaman his powers are the same however he does not control the sea he gets help from sea creatures by talking to them, and does not have typical abilities of all Greek Gods; he is not immortal and cannot change form. Poseidon passed on many traits to Aquaman.
Aquaman in many ways shows who and what Poseidon was. Sharing many of the same powers and traits, they represent each other well. One as the god of the sea and the other as the king of the sea.

First is the comparison between the sheriff and Poseidon, and while the sheriff like Poseidon was attempting to prevent Ulysses from getting home there are some big differences about them. There is the fact that with Poseidon, chronologically, was not introduced into the story until near the end, and the sheriff was introduced at the very beginning, and he played a bigger on face role in O Bother Where Art Thou than Poseidon did in the Odyssey. Also the sheriff had a group of deputies that he was always with, and on the other hand Poseidon did not have a group that he associated with in The Odyssey. Next there was the con artist who was the counterpart to the Cyclops in O Bother Where Art Thou. The biggest difference was that the con artist was human and the Cyclops was... a Cyclops. But beyond that, the con artist shows up later in the story as one of the KKK members, and on the other hand after Odysseus left the land of the Cyclops he was never herd of again in the story. Also there is the fact the in The Odyssey the Cyclops charictar devoured some of Odysseus crew, but eventually Odysseus prevailed and blinded the Cyclops…
