Positive and Negative Description with Self Reflective View
January 21, 2011

Description 1- Positive Effect In the brightly lit doctors’ office, patients hurriedly rush in the doors into a blast of heat, as warm as the summer sun, to get out of the blistering cold winter air. The warm friendly face of the receptionist with bright blonde hair and vibrant green eyes greets every patient as they step up to the clear glass window to check-in for their scheduled appointments. The pleasant receptionist dutifully retrieves the patients chart and happily chirps “please have a seat in the waiting room, enjoy some decadent French roast coffee while you are waiting.” The waiting room is filled with gigantic, darkly rich maroon colored chairs and vast amounts of reading material. In the middle of the room there is an octagonal five foot tall fish tank filled with a plentiful amount of tropical fish dotted with vibrant reds, blues, yellows, and oranges blissfully swimming. There are two large 64 inch HDTVs’ with gleaming bright screens hung strategically on the North and West sides of the walls so every patient can view them from any angle in the room. Each television plays informational videos showing a cheerful dark haired woman, beaming, with vivid white and straight teeth.
Description 2- Negative Effect In the scarcely lit doctors’ office patients sluggishly trudge in through the heavy, drab steel grey doors trekking in black slushy snow from the cold and icy parking lot. A middle-aged woman sits in front of a glass window speckled with a film of dust and dirt checking in patients for their unscheduled appointments. The receptionist with overly dyed platinum blonde hair and bright metallic pink lipstick smudged on her teeth, grumpily mumbles “Take a seat.” The waiting room smells of must and is filled with uncomfortable chairs covered in a scratchy dull red material and out-of-date magazines with ripped off front covers. In the middle of the room there in a small fishbowl

The world portrayed in the hospital ward is one of sexual repression and inhibition. This is exemplified in the Big Nurse as well as in Nurse Pilbow, who is frightened of the patients' sexuality. It is frequently emphasized that the Big Nurse has large breasts, the mark of her femininity, but she tries to conceal them. Everything about her and the ward is sterile, cold, and lifeless, from the Big Nurse's manner down to the white starched uniforms of the staff.…

The setting, while consistent in the place, which is most often the doctor’s office, is not always consistently described. At the beginning we don’t get a lot of information about where/when they are. We get the minimal amount of description about his office: there’s a couch, chairs, coffee table, and a desk. But that I about all we are given.…

The author goes on to talk about how things are done when students are going through medical school they are asked to make a note of how their patients appear (The Clothes That Make the Doctor, 2014). She explains how things use to be in the past when doctors wore white lab coats and how nurses wore white dresses and hats. Unfortunately, things have changed a lot in health care in the last sixteen years and physicians and nurses are not as they use to appear. The author explains how everyone has a different opinion on what exactly a professional dresses like and comes to a point expressing how a doctor may dress more casual to not make a very obvious difference between patient and physician. That if one was more dressed casual a patient would feel less anxious and more willing to have an open…

Sensitivity! What is sensitivity? Sensitivity is the quality or condition of being sensitive. In patient care to what degree is our sensitivity. This week at clinical I got to experience my first Trauma One. I live in Evanston, Wyoming so being involved in a Trauma case is very rare but not unusual. The ER called over to inform us of a trauma and that we needed to be over right away. Once we got there with the portable, RN’s and doctors were all over the place. The trauma came in and it was a gunshot to the upper left quadrant. They continued CPR and the doctor said “that’s it we are headed to the OR.” Not before all this was he screaming cause one there was not enough gowns, two the RN’s are not prepared and ready and three why isn’t radiology here, even though we were but just behind the corner to make room. The ER nurses had a student nurse with them that night. She and I stood next to each other. They had yelled several times at her and she asked “how do you do this?” Before I could answer we all had to run to the OR. Once there the doctors tried to save the patient but it was too late, making this my first fatal trauma. Not only was this a patient but this patient’s mother was an employee of the hospital. After they called it everyone was hysterical. The student nurse asked me why is everyone so overly sensitive right now. I pulled her aside and let her know the situation. She still stated there being too sensitive. I then had to reevaluate my own feelings. I did not know this patient or his mother very well. Although I couldn’t help but be sad by the incident how could this student nurse not be? We all work together as a team and if you member is down it affects us all. In high school I was not a sensitive gal, to be honest I was the bully, something I don’t like to admit to but need to in order to understand where I am know. I’ve been working in the medical field since I was 16…

The following day we all took a trip to the hospital to visit my aunt. As we arrived at the hospital, I felt a child run down my spine. The air was cold in there, a deafening silence in the hallway as we continued further in to locate my aunt’s room. Hospitals in my mind are either a safe and happy place filled with doctors or a place of death looming around the corner. Once we reached my aunt’s room, only a few of us at a time could visit her. The doctor informed us that too many visitors at once would reduce the oxygen concentration within the…

When it comes to Critical thinking it is the ability to apply of the form of reasoning and logic to an unfamiliar ideas, opinions and situation. When you thinking critical thinking it involves being opening minded and seeing thing that way. It also makes people farther than what your own opinion is, and makes you look at the world out view. Critical thinking is a process of analyzing, interpreting, or evaluating the tangible and the intangible world. And another way of critical thinking is being able to think rationally. The main three significant things I have learned were to be clearer to clarify my thinking. Be aware that my views can be looked at as well as other people view as well. Always try and stay focus on solving issues before they become into a problem are out of hand. Critical thinking has changed for me, because me personally I think when I state something that is the final word. When on the other hand listening to someone else opinion may just shed some light to the situation that is at hand. Critical thinking has made me more aware of others viewpoints really the worlds because everyone is different and looks at thing differently. I placed myself in stage advance thinker I still think that my opinion is for someone own good, but throughout this course I have learned in critical thinking look at others views as well. And being the person I am it is hard but to do things opening minded, I need to take time and try it out to listen to others as they do me. When I became to the end of this course I was telling myself it would be nice to be a master thinker, where you can use at your best critical thinking. First I believe I have to except that others has views that can be positives as well as my views and realize just, because someone comes to me with a situation they have an opinion as well. And to remember to always think rationale when am using critical thinking I may have a better outlook on…

    My Own Little World

The door to my office is nearly always closed. It's the place I go to read, work and discover in peace. Today, however, I'm inviting you in for a visit. As you open the door, notice the beautiful crucifix with its bright gold and maroon flowers; it joyfully reminds me to dedicate my work to God. Although the room is small, I hope you find it cozy. A big cheerful window lets in the morning sunshine, which saturates the room with its warmth and embraces us with light. Birds chirp outside, beckoning you to enter. An old-fashioned doctor's desk with brass drawer handles sits in front of the window, its wood full of nicks from many careless moves and the marks from once-teething puppies. May I introduce you to Sarahbelle, my friendly computer, who sits on top of the desk? When I turn her on, she'll whirl and chime the famous ‘Windows’ musical notes as if to cheerfully say “Good morning, Sarah”. That's my dog Frederick Von Dixon under the desk, snoring in harmony with Sarahbelle and the birds. Against the left wall are my book cases, sagging with the wise weight of cheap paperbacks, college text books, cookbooks, how-to manuals and a few expensive romance novels sprinkled in. A tropical purple orchid in a watercolor graces the wall across from us. Won't you have a seat in the tattered old black beanbag chair nestled in the other corner? I know you smell the freshly perked coffee. I made it especially for your visit. Use my favorite cup there on the tray; it's the one with me and my mother’s portraits at the same innocent age of 6 years old on it. Stay as long as you wish, but when you're ready to leave, be sure to close the door behind you. I like the peaceful security of this, my own little…
