1.1 About Cement:Cement was invented in 1824 by Joaeph Aspdin, an English Mason. He named the product as Portland cement as its color resembled to the rock found in Portland, a place in England. Concrete is the second most used commodity in the world after water. During 2000-2001, it is estimated nearly 1 ton of concrete is used by each person on earth. The production of cement is presently estimated at 2000 Million Tons. The strength of cement when it was invented was about 10 MPa which has Continuously increased to 75-80 MPa and through better understanding of its Chemistry and improved technology. Cement is likely to remain the main binding material even in the 21 st Century, as it is manufactured from most abundantly available materials in upper crust of the earth viz. limestone, sandstone, bauxite, clay and iron ore.
Cement A building material made by grinding calcinrd limestone and clay to fine powder, which can be mixed with water and poured to set as a solid mass or used as an ingredient in making mortar or concrete. Types of cement 1. Ordinary Portland Cement

1.2 History of Cement Industry
1. Era of Dominant Imports – 1914-1924:
During this period of 10 years, the total cement consumption was around 2 million tones: of which nearly 50 per cent consisted of imports. Beginning with a production of 1000 tones in the year 1914, the indigenous production touched nearly a quarter million tons in the first decade. In 1924 against the capacity of half a million tone only 0.26 million tone was produced.
