John 3:15 -21

Intro: My favorite evangelist – passed away about 10 years ago – Harold Laythem * I loved the way he preached - (Show a little of it- back and forth pacing) 1. I have read after many evangelists – Vance Havner – Billy Graham – D.L. Moody – Hyman Appleman – Billy Sunday – R. A. Torrey – 2. They have always been giants to me – heroes

I. WHAT IS AN EVANGELIST? * We think of the fellow who is a revival preacher 1. A God-called preacher who doesn’t pastor A. Goes week after week around the country – world – preaching revival meetings B. If he can sing – or has a wife or daughter who can – so much the better 2. That is not what the Bible means when it speaks of an evangelist A. Only find it 3 places in the NT * Eph 4:11 - And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; * Act 21:8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.
(NOT PHILIP - THE APOSTLE – NOT EVEN A PREACHER - DEACON) * 2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. B. The word – so little used in the English language * Not found in most dictionaries * To our present culture – seems even intrusive – bigoted * The thought that anyone would try to push their religion off on someone else * Ask the average American and they can’t stomach such a thought 3. Evangelism A. Maybe only found 3 times in NT – but concept is central to it * It’s the very first part of the Great Commission – “Go ye therefore and teach all nations…” * It is central to the work of the NT church * It is the only hope of the lost B. What is it? - It is the propagation of the gospel message to a lost man or

Christian ministry can be defined in many different ways. Ministry is often viewed as meeting a need with compassion, whether it is a spiritual, physical, or emotional need. Ministry done in a Christian context is typically done with the intention of introducing someone to the message of the Gospel or aiding them in maturing in their relationship with Jesus Christ. There are many activities that are important to Christian ministry and important for believers in Jesus Christ to participate in. The purpose of this writing is to offer a brief examination of three of these activities and seek to answer the question ‘What is the essential activity of Christian ministry?’…

The New Testament of the Bible contains eight letters to the early Churches written by the Apostle Paul; among those is the letter to the Church in Ephesus. Ephesians chapter 4 focuses on the need for unity within the body of Christ, or the church, as well as the necessity of being mature and developed in knowledge of the teaching of Christ. All of this is necessary for believers to not conduct their lives as they did when they lived by the world’s standards, but to live set apart, being transformed into the image of Christ.…

According to my research the advantages of using the Four Spiritual Laws approach are, they enable one to be prepared because it is [so simple] and represents the basic truths of the Gospel of Jesus. This method allows you to open up an easy conversation the right way. For example, “I have been a Christian for years, and I have just recently found a way to express my faith that genuinely makes sense. I would like to share it with you. Have you heard of the Four Spiritual Laws?” At the same time, the most understandable way to explain the Laws is to read the booklet aloud. It gives one the confidence of already knowing what to say because it distinctly presents the claims of Jesus Christ. Above all, this is essential to pass on to a non-believer (2 Timothy 2:2). Furthermore, in using this method you can explain all the…

    A. Compare the terms shepherd and pastor. – In the New Testament the bible says, and he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers (KJV Ephesians 4:11). The word pastor used here in Greek is ποιμήν, or poimēn meaning shepherd, is to tend as a shepherd or as a supervisor; to rule. The truth is, the word pastor(s) is used only one time in the New Testament with the word being translated to mean shepherd. In today’s society we use the word pastor in many different ways to describe the leaders of the church. The word shepherd is the more appropriate translation for the word. The word shepherd is used at least thirteen times in the King James New Testament.…
