A Fruit battery is a device used in experiments that are shown in many science textbooks around the world. It is made by inserting two different metal objects for example a galvanized nail and a copper coin or nail, into an ion bridge (for example a lemon, a orange or paper soaked in salt water or acid), The copper coin serves as the positive electrode or cathode and the galvanized nail as the electron producing negative electrode or anode These two objects work as electrodes, causing an electrochemical reaction which generates a small partial difference.…

Edgar Allan Poe is an author that has mastered the choice of words in his stories to create just the right mood and the right feelings. In The Fall of the House of Usher, a man will visit a childhood friend who is suffering from a strange illness. Strange events will occur under his host’s roof. In this short story, Poe uses conventions of gothic literature to push the story’s protagonists into a state of constant distress of the mind and eventually drive them into madness. Gothic conventions such as the gothic setting, death and the supernatural will slowly bring fear upon his characters.…

People always talk about saving energy, or becoming “eco-friendly”. People have found many ways to produce electricity, but have they ever tried fruits or vegetables? This project finds which fruit or vegetable produces the most electricity. I tested ten different fruits and vegetables (independent variable) to see which generated the most electricity by measuring the amount of electricity produced in mV (dependent variable) for each one. My hypothesis was that the grapefruit would generate the most electricity compared to all the other fruits and vegetables. The experimental results did not support my hypothesis and showed that the apple had generated the most electricity. This also shows that if a fruit or vegetable is high in citric acid, it does not mean that it will generate the most electricity.…
