Dear editor
The issue I chose to speak on was pollution, water pollution to be more specific. Water pollution is the pollution of bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, seas and oceans. Water pollution happens when pollutants such as sewerage or any type of trash is put directly into a body of water without being purified to remove harmful things found in the pollutants. Water pollution is bad for many reasons; one being that the pollutants may be harmful to the animals, plants or any living organism in the body of water. The killing of fish and aquatic plants is a direct affect of water contamination. Some groups that are trying to address this issue are the EPA (environmental protection agency), the NRDC (natural resources defense council) and the AWWA (American water works association). Since this is a very big issue these groups have not been extremely successful with addressing it. The NRDC (natural resources defense council) have issued a plan, “Ten Simple Ways You Can Help Reduce Pollution and Runoff, these are ten steps that anyone can do to help the water pollution problem. Also the AWWA’s (American water works association) policy Water Quality Control in Distribution Systems.
To help contain this issue of water pollution we should do what the NRDC (natural resources defense council) says. Issue a plan that people have to follow. Raise the littering fine, because litter can end up in storm drains that head out to the ocean. Also put a really high fine on littering at the beach these fines will make people think before they litter anywhere and if they do some of the money from the fines should go help pay for treatment of polluted water.
There should also be laws issued making it a necessity to have a waste purifier in factories that are going to be dumping water into lakes and rivers.

The destruction caused by Mother Nature cannot be prevented, but what can change is the destruction we humans are causing. I feel that it is important to try and reach out to every individual to get them to fully understand the dilemma, we need to make the public more aware of the situation at hand and its severity on marine animals and plants, and we also need to emphasize the affects it could end up having on humans and society. In order to do this I think it would be important to start small and work my out. Another aspect that would help greatly is to create more marine reserves, which protects the habitat and the animals and plants. In marine reserves no mining is allowed, no fishing, and no fish farming. (MarineBio, n.d.). The habitat are preserved and safe. This is not going to save all marine habitats, but any positive action, is a step in the right direction. The first steps I would take in educating the greater population would be to find those who want to conserve marine habitats and who are willing to dedicate their time to the project. Once I have a team built in my town we will work together to set up meetings in the neighborhoods, and at the schools. Going about setting up meetings would take a great deal of time because my team and I would have to research the affects we have had on marine…

Each day the Chesapeake Bay is becoming more and more polluted, and one day will be so toxic we can’t go near it. The lab was conducted at the McBride residence. For this experiment vegetable oil, vinegar and liquid detergent was use to contaminate the water. Testing of how ground water is affected by different contaminants was the bases of the experiment. The results were interesting in that when vinegar is filtered through dirt it came out fairly clean, it also changed the scent. This shows that maybe we can find a way to find a safer choice on how we filter and purify water. The use of sand, charcoal and gravel was used as an aquifer to exact the water. Bleach was used to sterilize the contaminated water and the process. For the last lab, tap, Dasani and Fiji water were tested with ammonia, chloride, iron and phosphate to determine which water is better for humans to drink. The results were that the vinegar changed the scent and the laundry detergent changed…

The issue I chose to write about is health and the significant impact that it has on millions across the world in our society. In relation to the environment, there are certain types of health risks that can play a major part such as: cancer, mortality, certain disabilities, and how all of these things are managed on a consistent basis. These environmental issues affect everyone, not just one particular person or type of group amongst us all. For this reason alone, it is imperative to bring light to each individual situation and develop some sort of change to create a basic balance throughout the world. There are many causes that make these issues prevalent such as toxins that pollute…

Plastic pollution affects every waterway, sea and ocean in the world. When we damage our water systems, we 're putting our own well-being at risk. This pollution also has huge costs for taxpayers and local governments that must clean this trash off of beaches and streets to protect public health, prevent flooding from trash-blocked storm drains, and avoid lost tourism revenue from filthy beaches. NRDC analyzed a survey of 95 California communities and found their total reported annual costs for preventing litter from becoming pollution is $428 million per year.
