2.2 These are the following roles and responsibilities of media : - ROLES 1. To bridge communication gaps between different sections of society. 2. Critically analyze public polices, social and cultural issues in the society 3. To portray an act as mirror of society to inform the people.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To increase knowledge or dissipate ignorance 2. To account stories in a truthful manner 3. To be educational and informative
2.3 The first organisation I identified is the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), This organisation regulates the media by planning and managing the radio frequency variety as well as protecting consumers of these services
The Second Organisation identified is the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) they regulate the telecommunications, broadcasting industries and to settle disputes among other functions.
2.5 These are the following two ways in which the media acts as “watchdogs of society”: - 1. By safeguarding the interests of common people by exposing the appalling elements in the society 2. Furthermore they keep the public informed about recent happenings, in the event emergencies occur they shall be notified.
2.5.1 These are three ways in which the media does not reflect the society we live in: - 1. The media is selective with the type of news they render worthy, it does not always address real problems. 2. Secondly the media positions undermines other political parties and fronts the ruling party with all the good they do. 3. Lastly the media may slant the direction of certain political party when that particular party has not delivered its promised services.
