Poverty in modern era
As many of the people in the world are concerned what to wear, what to buy, where to go on vacation est. the others continuously are facing the evil, so called poverty, not knowing if they are going to have lunch in the next day or many of them in the next week. The poverty is not a new problem but it is one of the biggest problems, nowadays. On one hand, there is rapid development of the technology, everyday there are new mobile phones with better and higher performances, new computers, new weapons est. On the other hand, “at least 80% of the humanity lives on less than $10 a day”1. “According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty”2. “Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names”3. These are some of so many statistic information and researches that are pointing to worldwide problem- poverty.
“The World Food Programme says, “The poor are hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty.” Hunger is the number one cause of death in the world, killing more than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined”4. There are researches that show frightening facts for the hungry people. ”7.1 billion people in the world, or one in eight, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-2012.”5 More awful of all that facts is that according to the world agriculture production is able to produce enough food for everyone.
“1.5 billion people worldwide DO NOT have access to clean drinking water”6. As people don’t have normal terms for living like lack of clean drinking water, they are so easily exposed on diseases and there after huge number of death.
“In a Third World nation, a family with indoor plumbing, running water, decent food and clothing, and access to health care and education is quite well off. In the United States, however, millions of people who have those things are considered poor, because they have little else and those things constitute the bare essentials in America.
