Poverty Essay
Question: Choose an issue of importance to you—the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope—and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.
My parents had a life where there were no three meals a day, no electricity and so many other things. They used to tell “you never know how bad poverty is until you experience it”. Poverty is the leading cause of death in every developing county. We all know about poverty but we do nothing to stop it. According to UNICF more than 22000 kids die every day because of poverty. The food that we waste everyday will be enough to remove world poverty. My parents and grandparents came from world of utter poverty. When I talk about poverty I know how bad it is and I want the new generation to everything they can to remove poverty. Have anyone gone hungry for a day or two? We all eat at least three meals a day but there are people in the world who don’t even have a single piece of bread to eat. Mahatma Gandhi once said “there are people in the world, so hungry that god cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” We all are living in a country where we have everything but there are people in the world who have to drink dirty water to slake their thirst. In Africa more than 5000 kids die each day because of drinking dirty water. We all know about this but we do nothing to stop world poverty. Remember that today’s kids are tomorrow’s future. If we put the all the billionaires in the world together they may be able to remove world poverty from this world. According to human nature if we want to do something we have the ability to do it but no one is there to take the lead. As a 17 year old teenager I care about my fellow citizens and the coming generation. I don’t want them to see a world of poverty and death. I want them to see a world of evergreen sunshine. Poverty is not something that we can

Poverty is something that will bring you down a dark path if you let it. It’s needs and problems will only pile if you don’t take action. There are limitless options in helping poverty. Helping just one person in need is enough, however one must ask: How many people are willing to help? To make a world-wide difference on poverty, many people must be willing to help. Abdul Edhi, a well-known philanthropist of Pakistan, lives the simplest life one can imagine in Pakistan. He raises and funds massive amounts of money for the poor, yet he, himself, lives a simple, plain life. He sacrificed most of his worldly pleasures to dedicate himself to helping the poor. If there were more people like Edhi, imagine how much change will come to the world. People who are oblivious to poverty, do not have much knowledge about poverty, and how it plays an important role in affecting other issues as well. People need to be more aware of poverty in that sense because poverty affects numerous other places as well. Poverty negatively affects education, economy, society, and most importantly, the people of the country. When a person is poor, he has trouble providing education for himself because he is too busy thinking about how to feed his family and himself. He desperately needs a job, but works as a laborer instead, since this job requires less skill. He asks for some people in society to help him, but they are too absorbed in their own work to even notice his cries for help. This explains how poverty really affects…

The reality of poverty is a silent Killer that is ignored by most but by opening our eyes and taking a stand against poverty we can live in a poverty free world. “In addition, the government isn’t doing as much as they should be but in America it’s helping people stay in a home when they lose it all such as president Obama has set an act that provides income support but still there are still 45 million people living in poverty who can’t get access to these benefits” (U.S. Poverty and Inequality). Furthermore, some might say that people living in poverty are in poverty because they chose to be poor. Many rich people said that all poor people should work or look for a job that helps them live better or their lazy to work. “Rich people say that because they realized that every person that is rich has worked hard to be rich, they also realized that if poor people start to work hard like they did they wouldn’t live in poverty” (Counter Argument Poverty). As many people say people are poor because they chose to be poor, rich people think this because all the successful people think that everyone’s life is the same as theirs but it’s not true because when someone is born in poverty they spend most of their life in poverty, and their adult life. “In addition, the cause of…

However, did you know how poverty plays a huge part in America's problems? Poverty plays into problems we see in America today because there is crime, health issues, and damaged communities.…

Poverty is a big problem in the Americas. In 2010, 15.1% of all citizens were below the poverty line- and people aren’t magically getting wealthier. A question has been rising: Are people able to change their social and financial status? Is it fixed, or changeable, or somewhere in between? It all depends on how willing a person is to try to get out of poverty. If one sits around and does nothing but cry about how poor they are, they will not be as successful as someone who keeps their head up looking for opportunities. In conclusion, some people can move up in status, while some can’t.…

Poverty is one of the most serious issues in the United States today. Those that are affected were once the minority of society is now emerging as the majority. The new faces of poverty would surprise many people. It is no longer the face of the pleading face of a middle-aged man on a city street holding up a sign that says “Hungry, Need Help.”, or the face of a young child in a classroom, whose only real meal today will be a free school lunch. It is also the sad face of a single mother who doesn’t have enough money to buy clothes for her children.…

Even though the government is trying to make more beneficial tax cuts, and find other various solutions, poverty levels continue to rise drastically. But to first find the solution ourselves we must first know what causes poverty and what it is. A simple definition of it is, poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or finances. Poverty is not just a problem in America, poverty is not just a problem in foreign countries, poverty is not just among a certain race, poverty is a worldwide issue that can affect anyone, even your community. Seeing examples of poverty throughout life can be very emotional, it lives all around. Pretty much anywhere there are people who are homeless, maybe begging for food or money. People walking to get where they need to go because they can not afford a car or possibly gas. Seeing kids at school come in without a jacket on when it is snowing outside because their families can not afford a winter coat for them. These are all examples of poverty.…

One of the most devastating tragedies that both kills and makes people suffer all over the world is poverty. What many people do not realize is how widespread and serious this issue really is. In the United States one in seven households were food insecure last year which adds up to 17.4 million households and 16 million children facing the devastating effects of hunger. Getting the needed food and nutrition is critical to children's emotional and physical development and if no one tries to help who knows what will become of the millions of children who do not get the food and supplies that is required to live a normal life. Poverty not only effects children, but people in all parts of the United States from the most rural areas to big urban…

Poverty is a major issue throughout our country that needs to be changed immediately. We all whether upper, middle or lower class co-exist in the same country. We all live to help one another develop educationally, mentally ,financially. So to live in a country where we shame those who make lower incomes. I view poverty as a disease that needs to be eliminated entirely. And as an evolving society we must realize that until we fix the issues right in our backyards. We will never reach that feeling of self-actualization. Allowing us to always feel broken and insecure and dissatisfied with the lives that we…

The United States, one of the most powerful and wealthiest countries in the world, 1 in 5 people suffer from the effects of poverty most of them being children and teens. Back in 1964, the government said,”that 23% of kids in the United States go to be hungry or without basic human needs”(LA Times). Another study done by the Census Bureau shows,”The official poverty rate is 13.5 percent...” and “...an estimated 43.1 million Americans lived in poverty according to the official measure”(UC Davis). Even though the United States is imagined as one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world, many people in the country don’t have access to many basic needs like clean water, plumbing, or good food. I am also most passionate about alleviating poverty in order to relieve human suffering and would argue that it should be a priority in terms of addressing other areas of concern as well. This perspective has most evidently been shaped by my time spent in Romania, living in an economically-depressed town. As families are forced to leave and seek other ways to be a part of the economic system, the city is dying. While I saw good work being done to build social capital, building social capital and fostering trust was not going to bring about jobs or incomes to allow families to afford their basic needs. Thus, my first and foremost concern is with poverty. I believe that it has the most immediate, direct, effect on well-being, and can play a huge role in the survival of communities and…

I think a way we could end poverty is by provided more jobs. How is that possible you ask? Well here is what I think. We need to stop the outsourcing. Multinational corporations have outsourced over 2.4 million jobs over the last decade We are having the Chinese make items for us and then having them shipped back to America. On the other hand, if we have Americans make these items, it will provide more jobs. Jobs equal money for the poor. We need to figure out a way to make it as economical to produce the products here instead of outsourcing to other countries.…
