Poverty: the state of being extremely poor.
But do you feel poverty?
Do you feel the grumbling noises and pain coming from empty stomachs, the dirty, uncomfortable ground used for a bed, the coughs, colds and runny noses wiped with ripped sleeves of dirty wrists?
Do you feel poverty?
When the newspapers describe the stories of many being relocated, evacuated and eliminated.
Do you feel poverty?
When you watch the TV screens exposing cold bodies outside expensive buildings, hoping for a kind soul to drop a coin or two into a little cardboard cup waiting to be filled.
Do you really feel poverty...or do you just know of it?
You can’t feel poverty when your pockets contain change.
You can’t hear poverty when you talk over the voices chanting for help.
You can’t see poverty when you turn the other way.
You can’t taste poverty when you go home to fresh food.
You can’t smell poverty when you breathe clean air.
You can’t understand poverty until you question why you gave your friend a dollar, but you can’t give a homeless person 25 cents.
Society has changed our perception of poverty.
The population is rich in poverty.
Society has made poverty a disease.
A virus which spreads as fast as wildfire.
Three billion people have this “disease” called poverty.
Three billion people are isolated, looked down on and discouraged.
Three billion people want to get back up on their feet.
Three billion people wish everyone would understand.
Three billion people need help.
So do you feel poverty yet?
