I enjoyed all the major characters in the book that had any kind of impact on Peekay. But my most favorite is Doc. Personally because I always was willing to have an older friend of mine who understood life well and could teach me how to get through circumstances that makes me feel uncertain and not sure on how should I proceed. Despite the fact that Doc, an old alcoholic German music instructor, speaks to the universe of rationale and reasonability, he comprehends the mysterious side of life in the meantime. In Chapter Nineteen Peekay condenses his character: "Doc was quiet and reason and request." However, Doc tells Peekay that when truth is not in question, it is ideal to pick puzzle above rationale. Doc's association with Peekay starts when they meet in the slopes behind Peekay's home in Barberton-Doc moved to South Africa from Germany fifteen years already, and his discourse is sprinkled with German words, and odd expressions of his own …show more content…
He gives hope, structure, and sanity to Peekay in a crazy world full of bullies, a family that moves without even telling him, and a Mom who has nervous breakdowns and becomes fervently religious. He is a meticulous scientist and a world-class musician, and teaches Peekay the value of knowledge.
Doc is an outsider, kind of like Peekay, because he is a German living in South Africa. He lives alone, and his relationships all seem to be mostly based on intellect, not emotion. His difference gets him into trouble, but he takes his imprisonment during the war in stride. We're not sure we could stay so composed if we were thrown in jail indefinitely…
