In my life words have been hurtful and uplifting. There’s a saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” that’s not always true necessarily. One of the reasons we start fights is because of words. An example of this in my life is I lost one of my best friends because she was starting to act different and say mean things about me and other people. I told her what she was doing and let’s just say that she didn’t like that. Then she said some not very nice things to me and now we’re not friends anymore. Now don’t get me wrong not all words are bad and hurtful but in fact they can be uplifting. When I am upset and someone tells me something nice or something to cheer me up it feels so good. Not only when I am sad or upset do words lift me up but when someone complements me or says something nice it also makes me feel good about myself.
An example of the power of words in history is the 9/11 speech how George Bush wrote that to help our nation come together. I mean look at it know everyone puts in their effort to help one another. Those words that he wrote were so powerful and helping that they turned our nation around. I think that after that speech is when everyone had a wakeup call and started coming together. Bushes words were also comforting and that’s another reason people were coming together because they all wanted to help.
An example of the power of words in literature is a book that I was reading in class called “staying fat for Sarah Byrne’s” in the book there is an argument and it is between this boy named Dale and a Girl name Sarah and when they get in to the argument the call each other names and they say thing that they don’t mean to say. When they say mean things to each other they get mad and hurt and say things even hurtful back and it goes on and on until they both are really upset and mad.
Words can be helpful and hurtful. We have to be careful of what we say because the tiniest things can hurt one another. Words have helped us and hurt us. If word never hurt us or helped us we wouldn’t be who we are today. That’s the power of words.

In Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, the power of words helps drive the central action of the plot. First of all, it becomes clear that the words themselves have the power to shape and create a sense of reality. Without a steady stream of words, both internal and external, much of the tragic action in each play would likely be stunted. In Hamlet, words are weapons and can be like poison in the ear or like daggers. Hamlet’s deep connection with language and words causes him to base his perceptions of reality on his interpretation and understanding of words. Being a contemplative man, this is both one of Hamlet’s greatest gifts as well as Hamlet’s flaw.…

The lyrics of the pop song, “Stronger”, by Kelly Clarkson, is highly significant because of its empowering message. The lyrics allow listeners to feel confident about being strong no matter what or who may try to bring someone down, even if it were their own mistakes. To convey this message, Clarkson used many literary devices. For example, in lines like, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, Stand a little taller” there is external rhyme, which makes the song more pleasurable to the ears. Its chorus, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger” is a metaphor, that refers to the fact the previous mistakes and people that hurt one’s feelings, should making them stronger. The theme of these lyrics is that there needs to be growth…
