People were drowning in 25 ft street water because the levees breached. It was total chaos. The aftermath was the most devastating part of all.
Houses were damaged beyond repair. Flood waters also destroyed factories and restaurants. There were creepy floating bodies on the flooded streets. Just over 1800 lives were lost. On the brighter side of things, the levees were promised to be repaired by 2011, and the whole US came together as one after this horrific event and donated time, money, and basic necessities for the ones who lost everything in the storm. I think New Orleans was prepared, but not enough for what Katrina gave them. Hurricane Katrina makes a huge difference in the technology we have prepared for future monster storms. For those who survived Hurricane Katrina’s massive destruction, they now are aware along with the rest of us of what a real disaster storm can do, and it will make a huge impact on the lives of many
