The two were able to create a story that read easy, that is fun to read and very enjoyable. The book is a snapshot of one religious group during the early 1800s that, though being the stuff of pure entertainment, has been all but forgotten. While the book is very isolated in its focus, it expands upon the world at the time by placing Matthias and his Kingdom in the context of their time period. Not only does the book show how the world around Matthias shaped his Kingdom, but how the Kingdom was part of the larger evolving world that it existed within. Though there were many other religions around this time in development, the bizarreness of the story of Matthias illuminates best the failures of religious revival as the others exemplify success, which allows for a more complete idea of the varied nature of 19th century American religion and…

The opening of the book that was written by Dr. Mark McMinn takes the reader on a journey from start to finish. McMinn gives a description of how Christianity is related to psychology. The author teaches about the different translations that the Bible has and how one can relate it to their everyday life ( McMinn, 2011). The translations from the Bible includes Logos words, Rema, and personal living word for each person (McMinn, 2011). Due to the translations that McMinn discussed it is important for a counselor who is willing to utilize Scripture in their counseling sessions to be able to understand the translations and be able to adhere to the word of God.…
From the beginning of our journey through the Reptile we are constantly asking ourselves one question: “Why should Bubba Care about my Case?” The reason we ask that question stems from the “Why we Lose at Trial” stool. This stool tells us that reason we lose at trial is because of compassion fatigue, tort reform, and negative attribution. The jury comes to the courtroom tainted with these afflictions, without us making a single argument or admitting a single piece of evidence. These afflictions stem from their everyday experiences, expectations of society, and their hopes for the future.…
There are key disciplines shared that will help every Christian on their journey. Rankin’s book has given his reader Satan’s plan, and how Christian can win the battle in this spiritual warfare, despite Satan plan. Approaching spiritual warfare with grateful, and praise. Rankin’s shared experience of people that grow to seek the small things that God does for those that are in the battle. As readers face mountains, obstacles, and troubles, in reading these pages, they are now able to face them from a Godly perspective, and through that perspective, they will be empowered to appropriate the power of God’s Spirit, which all any Christian need to walk in the same victory Jesus won on the cross as He defeated…
Hawkins and Clinton integration approach reveal “biblically and spiritually” alertness (p.1). Their approach represents wisdom, redemption, strengths, and limitations, that leads to a structured approach. Moreover, “to effectively represent Christ and conduct counseling to bring forth healing, treatment, and restoration” (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 6). It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…
The medical community has reached a very important nexus in terms of providing care to the injured and infirm that find themselves in a hospital environment. The so-called Healing Hospital represents a radical shift from the traditional view of the role and function of a hospital or clinic in making an individual well. A contemporary hospital, when admitting a patient, will focus will laser intensity on what is “wrong” with them. That is to say, the entirety of their treatment is aimed at eradicating that which is ailing them. This is model that has served the medical community since the advent of modern health care. There a recent school of thought, however, that argues that it is no longer sufficient to simply treat a disease or injury. The so-named Healing Hospital Paradigm posits that true medicine ought to focus beyond the ailment and adopt a more “holistic” approach to making a person well.…
This book provides too much content for me to give a thorough review of it in just 4-5 pages. Therefore, my intention will simply be to offer four points that will be divided into two different sections. Section One will cover three areas of the book that I strongly agree with and personally identify with the most as a young preacher myself. Section Two will cover just one general area that will shed some light on how I thought the book could’ve been expressed better. It’s not so much that I disagree with any of the content, nevertheless,…
Share Jesus Without Fear by William Fay with Linda Evans Shepherd was written to inform the reader how important and how to share your faith with people. It is a book that tries to motivate and teach believers to be successful in sharing their faith (the gospel) in a simple but effective way. The author believes very strongly that “the success of sharing one’s faith is not about winning or bringing souls (people) to Christ it is all about obedience through…
Scientists have pushed the envelope into the unknown, the impossible, and the unethical since the beginning of science. Recently scientists have researched ways to treat diseases such as cystic fibrosis, cancer, aids, and several more devastating diseases with no known cures. Scientists have found promising treatments using gene therapy, cloning, and stem cells. There are very few treatments using these techniques that have been approved by the FDA and in turn there are very few labeled as a cure. Many of these treatments are also not available for the public at large, and in order to receive treatment you have to participate in a clinical trial. These…
Surprisingly, Mary Dunham Faulkner’s article “Sisters in Healing,” is based on an introspective study of consciousness, as to how far a woman’s determination to help other women through her own brokenness will lead. Notably, I glean the importance of caring for others during personal troubles or conflicts. Likewise, this article reminds me of a time in my life that I was broken and there was a (Mary Faulkner) who pulled me through. Not to mention, Mary lived in foreign country 25 years protecting girls from prostitution, even as she struggled in her own personal life. Ordinarily, in my opinion, most women going through the struggles with her husband as Mary wouldn’t have anything else on her mind. God allowed…

The title gives a clue about the book, but a better glimpse of what the book is really about is found in the book’s subtitle, “The Story of how God Developed His People in the Old Testament”. Unlike most Biblical survey books, that provide the theme, outline, information about the author, and a commentary of the Old Testament content, Dr. Towns’ book focuses on the people who influenced the events of the Old Testament. It does more than pin the events and people to a timeline, it interprets the Old Testament through the sequential influence of those that made and helped form Bible history.…
