About Pakistan Petroleum Limited:
The pioneer of the natural gas industry in the country,
Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has been a frontline player in the energy sector since the mid – 1950s. As a major supplier of natural gas, PPL today contributes some 20 percent of the country’s total natural gas supplies besides producing crude oil, Natural Gas
Liquid and Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
PPL operates six producing fields across the country at Sui (Pakistan’s largest gas field), Adhi, Kandhkot,
Chachar, Mazarani and Hala and holds working interest in twelve partner-operated producing fields, including Qadirpur, the country’s second largest gas field. The Sui name has become synonymous with natural gas in Pakistan. Located at a distance of about 650
Kilometers (km) from Karachi in Dera Bugti,
Balochistan, Sui is Pakistan Petroleum Limited’s flagship gas field. As a major production facility, Sui
Gas Field (SGF) hosts the country’s largest gas compressor station and a purification plant.
At the time of its discovery, SGF was considered among the largest natural gas fields in the world with recoverable reserves of 12 Tcf. Despite diminishing reserves over time, SGF still remains the highest natural gas producing field in Pakistan, contributing substantially to the country’s requirements with daily production of around 550MMscf.

Issues:
The existing plant information management system at
PPL did not feature real-time monitoring of the processes and plant facilities. Hence management had little hold on what was happening at plant floor. It did not have the capacity to handle all the alarms that were being generated in the control system. There was no historian to log the data and alarms so no advanced analysis could be conducted to

The reason behind this to be more specific, is the installment of new robots that were used to produce more and more finished goods that were not needed in the market and in the case of products needed, there aren't any parts that were available. The plant was unbalanced as it was not balancing the capacity of its resources with the demand from the market. Another reason are bottlenecks that the plant had to deal with.…

“India lives in her villages”, a maxim attributed to Mahatma Gandhi, rings true when we see rural India retaining its old domination of the national population and economy in its 627000 villages, even after six decades of a development model that cherishes urbanization and industrialization. Close to 69% of Indians—743 million people or 138 million households—live in rural areas, generating 56% of the national income. With urban markets showing signs of saturation, companies are getting increasingly excited about the potential of rural India. But they're also finding it a tough nut to crack.…
