INTRODUCTION
This chapter discussed about background of the company which internationally recognized maintenance, repair and overhaul the aircraft and also about their management namely AIROD Sdn Bhd which situated in Subang, Selangor. Background of the company includes the history, vision, mission, objective, and management.
1.1 History
AIROD was established in 1976 as the first and only in country facility to support the Royal Malaysian Airforce aircraft. In 1984, AIROD was privatized as a result of the Malaysian Government earliest privatization initiatives. AIROD is an internationally recognized Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) organization and was a pioneer of this in the country and remains Malaysia’s top aviation MRO center. With world-class facilities to support fixed and rotary wing aircraft, strengthened by more than two decades of technical expertise and excellence, AIROD has transformed from a national and regional player to a recognized brand in the international aviation industry, servicing 78 customers in 33 countries. AIROD is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Aerospace and Defense Industries (NADI). AIROD was conceived in the early 70′s primarily to embark on a “SELF-RELIANCE” posture as a defense strategy to spearhead the development of aerospace industry for Malaysia (depicted by its motto “BERDIKARI”). AIROD was originally the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Aircraft Inspection, Repair and Overhaul Depot formed in 1975. When it was privatized in January 1985, AIROD commenced operations with 10 Lockheed Managers and 242 Malaysian personnel most of whom were transferred from the RMAF.
1.2 Vision
Vision statements reflect the ideal image of the organization in the future. Besides that, the vision statement communicates both the purpose and values of the organization.
