5 April 2013 Praise to Caesar The Forum of Julius Caesar, nearly built 2,000 years ago, stands in ruins today. The construction of this forum represented part of Caesar’s reign and contribution to the Roman Empire. Now part of the Roman Forum’s history, the addition of the Forum of Julius Caesar gave exaltation to Caesar himself. The Forum of Julius Caesar or Forum Julium is an ancient Roman building whose purpose and design was created ultimately for the glory of Julius Caesar’s reign of the Roman Empire. As the leader of the Roman Empire, Caesar commanded developments of many buildings. One of which became the Forum Julium, named after Caesar himself. Under the reign of Roman Emperor Titus, a raging fire spread throughout Rome, which directly affected the Roman Forum, including the Forum Julium in 80 A.D. (“Imperia Fora”). Another fire occurred in Rome and burned the forum completely down in 283 A.D. After the fire’s destruction of the Roman Forum, a full reconstruction took place under the rule of Roman Emperor Domitian. Domitian controlled part of process of the structure’s reconstruction. Due to Domitian’s interest of the Forum Julium, this was seen as a separation from the Curia which corresponded with Caesar’s wish to have the Senate closely connected with him (“Imperia Fora”). Finally, the Forum Julium’s construction was accomplished in 95 A.D. After the reconstruction, little senatorial business took place, except for the secretarium senatus in the 4th century (“Imperia Fora”). During the years of constructing the Forum Julium and the damage taking place upon the forum the eternal representation of Caesar has never faded from history. This forum, out of many, contributed and inspired many people to respect Caesar and his accomplishments.
