For this experiment the alloy was available in the form of rolled 5mm thick plate. Specimens of the standard size used foe tensile testing were cut out from this plate. The tensile test was performed to study the mechanical properties( ultimate tensile strength(UTS), yield strength(YS) and elongation(E)) of the alloy. Universal Testing Machine(UTM) was used for performing the tensile test according to IS 1608-2005. Results of mechanical properties are shown in Table 2.2. These results are obtained by taking an average from five …show more content…
The aqueous solution of NaCl was prepared by dissolving 3.5% NaCl in distilled water. The pH of the solution was maintained at 7.5. The solution was changed every day in order to maintain the concentration. The corroded specimen were then taken out after 100 hours for performing the test.
Few corroded specimen were sectioned from the corroded area with care and then they were observed under the optical microscope to study the pit density and size.
2.3 STUDY OF MECHANICAL PROPERTES OF CORRODED SPECIMEN:
After the corrosion of the specimens was completed tensile test was performed on the specimens in order to study the effect of corrosion on the mechanical properties of the alloy. The test was by IS 1608-2005. The specimen was cut in dumbbell shape type 4. The tensile test was performed on Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The test was carried out under ambient conditions.
