Abstract
The objective of pre-feasibility study of the biodiesel production from waste cooking oil using solid catalyst (CaO/SrO/ZnO) is to study and design biodiesel process because the advantages of heterogeneous catalyst are reuseable and less amount of wastewater from washing process. In this project , starting with study and collect data from lab-scale experiment and study about Aspen Plus, program to design and simulate biodiesel processes with complicate calculation, and use Aspen Plus to find mass balance and energy balance and scales up to commercial-scale process. After simulation with capacity of biodiesel is 50,516 litres per day (44,454 kilogrames per day) by used Waste cooking oil 45,000 kilogrames per day , methanol is used in esterification process 24,165 kilogrames per day , methanol is used transesterification process 18,302 kilogrames per day , get glycerol (by-product) 3,898 kilogrames per day and used total enegy 48,755,151 kilojoules per day. Then, we use Aspen Process Economic Analyzer program to do plant cost estimation and pre-feasibility study. We found that (Net Present Value , NPV) = 51,506,864 which is more than zero , (Internal Rate of Return , IRR) = 16.66% which is more than desired rate of return (15%) and (Payback Period) = 14.22 years so this project should be invested. Moreover, we do sensitivity analysis for study about factors that can effected pre-feasibility study and found that the price of biodiesel is factor that most effected Internal Rate of Return , IRR
