Nearly twenty years ago I was one of the only ‘stay at home moms’ in my neighborhood. I began to be asked by friends and neighbors to watch their children, so after my third child was born I had my home licensed as a large family day care. I qualified for the larger capacity license because of the many years of volunteer experience working in my children’s classrooms and teaching Sunday school. While working as a home daycare provider I decided I wanted to someday be able to teach preschool or have a childcare center outside my home. I researched the requirements and discovered that I had a long road ahead of me. The first step was to get…

Everything started by volunteering in an elementary school, I thought it was just a normal job but no, it has become a passion to me. Seeing how people do their best to identify students’ academic strengths and weaknesses at early age. Since then, being like those people has been a goal to accomplish. And thanks to some books such as “American Educational Research Journal” and “elementary teachers from African American teens discuss their elementary teachers.” That have taught people the importance and value of being a professional tutor is exiting to read other people experiences and point of view. It makes you realize that is not an easy career but is going to be worth it. Is also a job that would make you learn different ways to teach, how…

I am in my senior year of college and will graduate in May with a degree in Secondary History and Government Education, a History minor, and an endorsement in Special Education. When deciding to go into the education field, special education was always the direction I planned to go. While I think about my future goals, graduation is in the near future and I would like to receive a position in a high school as a special education teacher upon graduation with my endorsement. Through my own experiences assisting in the special education classroom at my high school, I was a part of a system that didn’t provide students with a beneficial opportunity to learn and I want to be a part of a community to change this. After spending the past year working at the Center for Research on Learning, I have learned much more about the research process and the many different advances being made in education. This has given me an entirely new outlook on where I would like to be in the…
