Predation Lab
In the predation lab, my partner and I simulated the relationship between predators and prey in an ecosystem. To do this, we took 3 white squares, which represents the prey, and put them on a sheet of paper, which represents their ecosystem. We then took 1 larger pink square, that represented the predators, and let it fall onto the white squares. For the predators to be able to survive in the ecosystem, the pink square had to land on at least 3 white squares, and it also needed to land on 6 squares to reproduce one time. The prey always doubled in size after the pink squares landed. The independent variable was the continuation of the generations, while the dependent variable was the number of lost lives in that sequence. As the experiment

An electrocardiogram, abbreviated as ECG in this report, is a visual representation of an organism’s atrial and ventricular depolarization and repolarization. Previous research has shown that although there is variability in the amplitude and shape of the waves of ECG, dependent on the subject’s health, it follows a universal pattern that can be used effectively for biometrics. The experiments discussed in this lab report were performed on Daphnia, humans and crayfish to demonstrate the effects of various stimulus on cardiac activity, i.e. heart rate. The data presented in this lab report was measured via ECG software for human and Crayfish cardiac activity, while the…

Which type of compound usually has higher melting points: ionic compounds or covalent compounds? What is the reason for this difference in melting points? (3 points) Ionic compounds have higher melting and boiling points than covalent compounds. The electrostatic attraction in an ionic bond is very strong hence a lot of heat energy is required to break it down, ionic bonds have high melting and boiling points. In covalent bonds, the intermolecular forces are very weak and are easily broken, hence lesser heat is required and thus covalent bonds have lower melting and boiling points.…

In the prison documentary Predators at Prey, we learn about the daily challenges correctional officers face every day. The Lebanon Correctional Institution, located in Ohio, is a rehabilitation based prison that focuses on inmate reentry by offering various services. Just like most other prisons, correctional officers at this institution have to deal with individuals who have committed murder, sex crimes, and drug related crimes. As a result, stress is seen to manifest in different forms in an environment such as this one. Sanford Whitlow, a correctional officer of twelve years, made an interesting observation of correctional officers being unsung heroes who never receive credit for dealing with the worst people in society. Hence, the…
