Prejudice Against Native Americans
The results of my IAT test were kind of confusing, but it said that I preferred Native Americans and whites the same, so the way I took it is that I’m not prejudice against Native Americans. Yes, I do think that the results were valid; I do wish that they were easier to understand but the test was actually fun I have never taken a test of prejudice before and it was really interesting. I do not think that measuring prejudice would be that easy, because there are dishonest people in the world that may not want others to know that they are prejudice.
Other forms of data collected to measure the amount of prejudice; one is income data to show vividly the disparity in income between African Americans and White people also between man and women,

    I feel I accept everyone equally, include everyone and don’t discriminate against any differences. However, the results came out differently. My results concluded I have an automatic preference to African Americans versus European Americans and had a 33% strong automatic response for able people versus disabled people. When the results were displayed I was automatically offended the quiz stated I have a bias. However, as I thought more in-depth, I might not have been aware of my actions and had an unconscious bias. Though I may not agree with the results, I do believe the quiz could have some truth in representing a person’s unconscious bias. The “gaming” part of the quiz would determine the unconscious bias.     I performed the light skinned versus dark skinned test on IAT. The results from my test showed that I favor dark skinned versus light skinned people. I do think the test produced valid results. I have a sister that is a darker skinned African American. I watched people treat her different than myself growing up. I have always made a conscious effect to make sure I block those negative prejudices. I think it is possible to point out prejudice but not to accurately measure them. I feel there is no extreme versus light case. Prejudice is not like grading someone on their skills or knowledge. When a person chooses to judge others without knowing them personally that is a personal issue. I choose not to look at a person and say he/she is more prejudice than another person. I would have to say he/she was not educated and I would like to assist them with their faults. Another way sociologists measure prejudice is by social interaction tests. Sociologists could also used a personality test to see what common factors each group of people has and how they could incorporate their ideas into groups that oppose them. In another class of mine, we had to complete this test and see what type of person we are. The test showed how each person thinks and how they work; whether it was in a group or by themselves and if they liked to be in complete silence in order to learn more effectively.     The first test that I took was based on my preference of abled or disabled persons. I picked this test because I enjoy working with people of special needs, and some of the people I have met undergo speech therapy. When my results came in, IAT suggested that I have a moderate automatic preference for Abled Persons over Disabled Persons. This assumption surprised me because of my past experiences working with people with mental handicaps, but it is intriguing to see such automatic biases that we don’t even know exist. I interact with abled people more frequently than disabled people, so my guess is that I have formed a more comfortable relationship with that specific population.
