Athletes all have different ways of handling discrimination. One may be able to ignore it or tolerate it while others can break down and have a bad reaction to it. We can see how one athlete is particular handles a situation very well. His name is Dani Alves, a Brazilian soccer star, who during a match had a banana thrown at him and then proceeded to eat the banana and continue on with the match. In the article “Villarreal gave a life ban to rogue fan who threw banana at Dani Alves” by Tom McGowan and Paul Gittings, talks about this incident and how professionally Alves acted. In the article Alves states that “We aren't going to change things easily. If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective” (Dani Alves). Dani Alves couldn't have handled this situation any better, he didn't give way to the racist remarks and continued the game. Alves also said jokingly that his father always told him to eat bananas to prevent a cramp.
