Prejudice can be seen as a form of having biased opinions about a certain group as well having different attitudes or judging of others. The book Understanding Human Differences by Kent L. Koppelman defines prejudice as “a negative attitude toward a group and anyone perceived to be a member of that group; a predisposition to negative behavior toward members of a group”. In addition, prejudice is the act of making assumptions of a person or a community based on limited understanding. The assumptions that all Latinos are illegal or that all African American people are on welfare are examples of prejudice. Certainly these statements are untrue, yet they are used daily. Prejudice, discrimination and stereotypes are a part of American society as well all around the world. …show more content…
One of the main places that both children and adults learn about stereotypes is the mass media. Advertisements, television programs and movies are common to have racial and gender stereotypes. The content on television shows, movies and advertisements can greatly influence how people perceive and relate to one another. People are exposed to stereotypes on a daily basis by the media making it a part of daily
