Introduction: This essay will mainly discuss how learning underpins cognitive development in early childhood settings and the different perspectives on this domain of development. It will assess the child’s cognitive development through a case study. In Piaget’s perspective, learning is spontaneous and self-‐directed, dependent on a child’s current developmental level and a proper stage. Being an active and motivated learner, a child learns to interact with the environment, build on knowledge from his previous experience.
