Prescription Drug Abuse Essay

Prescription drug abuse has a huge effect on people and their families. Drugs have some good qualities and help in many ways. However, many people tend to abuse the ability to use drugs even when it is not a necessity to use the drugs anymore. Some people do not realize how much they rely on the drugs. There becomes a point in some people’s lives where they tend to take the drug not because they need it but because they have a habit and a want. Many do not realize the effect it has on the body to take these prescription drugs instead of finding a more authentic way to cope. Some people become so addicted to drugs that it becomes all they think about and nothing else. Everything and everyone become of lesser value to them. Getting that medicine
is all they care about. This affects families tremendously and affects children and the relationships they may have.

Drugs have very good perks as well as flaws. They have the ability to heal and relieve pain. According to Jane Collingwood “people who take their medications consistently demonstrate more healthy behavior overall. Backing up this idea are studies showing better outcomes for patients who consistently take their pills, even when those pills are a placebo. The patients’ feeling of being cared for and caring for themselves may sometimes be the key to recovery.” She claims that when a patient keeps taking drugs that they feel better about themselves which helps them recover (Jane Collingwood). When taking medicine regularly a body becomes dependent on it and it naturally makes people feel better and more alive.
The patient’s feeling of being cared for and caring for them may sometimes be the key to recovering. When a patient feels loved and cared for they become relaxed and able to heal without a lot of complication. There are a lot of things that go into recovering and taking medicine is sometimes a needed. Drugs help with pain which helps the patient move so that muscles may not become stiff and injured more.

When a person abuse prescription drugs it affects their bodies tremendously. People does realize how much people feeling “relaxed” affects your brain waves which is very unhealthy. “When used as a drug of abuse, and not under a doctor’s supervision, hydromorphone is taken to produce feelings of euphoria, relaxation, sedation, and reduced anxiety. It may also cause mental clouding, changes in mood, nervousness, and restlessness. It works centrally (in the brain) to reduce pain and suppress cough. Hydromorphone use is associated with both physiological and psychological dependence”(Drug of Abuse). The abuse of drugs is not a harmless personal decision, there are real, long-lasting, and devastating outcomes for those who abuse drugs.

Abuse affect people for a long time.

restlessness. Drug abuse has many horrible effects on the body however it affects so much more than that. It affects their families tremendously. When a loved one is going through drug addiction they began to act differently towards the people only trying to help. People that are addicted my not notice the change and the effect that it is having. Families fall apart because of addiction. People that are addicted may lose their job and frankly not care as long as they have the drug. You can't count on them to do what they say they will do. “They may forget or get distracted because their focus is on getting and taking drugs. They might lie or steal money to buy drugs. They might get fired from their jobs.They might not come home at night. They may do bad things they would never do if they weren't using drugs” (drug use hurts families). If a parent suffers from drug addiction the parent may forget or not care whether the child eat or has practice. The parent loses motivation to be there for the kid and the kid grows up resenting the parent. Family members that suffer from drug addiction may not realize what has happened to them and do not realize how much the child is being affected.
Marriages are ruined because they spouse may spend money on the drugs, have affairs, and ruin and hurt their children. There are a lot of ways that the user may abandon their responsibilities. Jobs do not want to have a person that is not independent and self motivated. Employers need a worker that is capable for accomplishing their tasks and if a person does not have that capability because they are so invested in the drug that they will lose their job. Which may result in stealing and losing
everything.

Prescription drug abuse have a huge effect on people’s bodies, families, and lives. They become dependant on the drug and the feeling caused by them. They become very unaware of the effects and the emotional imbalance.
