This scenario is an absolute disaster; I could not even imagine the possibility of having 20 mice roaming around in my attic. Initially, the cat would catch the five slowest mice. Then, I believe that eventually the cat would catch the five medium fast mice. Now the real problem starts, mice can reproduce at a phenomenal rate. Let’s assume that of the 10 mice left, five are males and five are females. "At 6 weeks old the female can become pregnant. [The] gestation [period for mice] is 3 weeks, and under optimal conditions the female can become pregnant again immediately after giving birth” (AFRMA, n.d., para.1). To make matters worse a female mouse can have anywhere from 5-10 babies in a litter, so the five remaining female mice could potentially…

The mouse trap car we designed for this project was pretty standard. We used metal rods with rubber wheels attached for the axles and wheels. We supported the axles to the frame using "U" nails. Our wheels featured some spinners as well. For the actual body of the car we glued the mouse trap on another piece of wood to lengthen the body. The mouse trap was hot glued on the top with a extended arm for more leverage. One end of a rope was glued on the extended mouse trap arm and the other end to the rear axle. As you wound the back wheels the rope would whined as well pulling the arm of the mouse trap back. When the trap arm was released the rope would begin to unwind spinning the rear wheels.…

Migra Mouse: Political Cartoons on Immigration is a book written by Lalo Alcaraz which encompasses his interesting opinions on immigration and America’s view of Latin Americans. Alcaraz attacks racists, politicians, and American society throughout his book, Migra Mouse: Political Cartoons on Immigration, and does a pretty good job of it too. Alcaraz’s book is certainly worth reading because it offers a new, fresh way to look at the ever-so perplexing topic of immigration.…

“The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men, often go awry, And lead us nought but grief and pain” The poem To a Mouse, by Robert Burns is used not only as part of the title in Of Mice and Men, but it also mirrors many of the same themes raised by the poet. To a Mouse is about the poet, Robert Burns, destroying a mouse’s nest. Burns then attempts to console the mouse, telling him that, “the best laid scheme o' mice an' men. often go awry,”. John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, took this line to heart when writing his novel. Just like the mouse, the two major characters, Lennie and George’s dreams and plans for the future all go wrong.…

Communication is an essential part of life and promotes self-expression and sharing of ideas. Communication is used to create to create motivation, planning and organizing, altering individual’s attitudes, and is a part of socialization. Everyone needs someone they can express themselves to that will listen, understand, and sympathize. Every voice and sol needs to be heard. While most people would agree having someone to talk to is essential in life, it is more important to have quality communication; not just talking for the sake of talking. Although George and Lennie’s relationship is an aspiring one, it lacks quality communication. George has to constantly remind Lennie of the things he has done or forgotten. Lennie’s lack of memory, inability to reply, and the overall incompetence the two have communicating, makes their relationship strenuous and aspiring. Lennie and George’s relationship provides each character a sense of security; As long as they are together, neither of them is alone in the world.…

Gender socialization, or the “patterns of behavior taught to children and adults in order to help them learn to behave as acceptable females or males,” begins strikingly early in life (Disch 1). While society as a whole is responsible for carrying out such socialization, many researchers believe that the strongest influence on gender role development seems to occur within the family setting, with parents passing on, both overtly and covertly, their own beliefs about gender (Witt 1). Because parents have the strongest initial influence and control over the early gender socialization their children undergo, they also have the potential to end the cycle of oppressive gender socialization most children experience from birth onward, and eventually…

A total of 39 female Swiss Webster mice were used in this experiment. All of the mice were female mice for two distinct reasons. The first being that it eliminated the gender variable, and the second reason being that all male mice would have caused increased aggression and lead to fighting within the housing cages. These mice were purchased from Hilltop Lab Animals Incorporated (Scottsdale, PA, USA) and were 8 weeks of age upon arriving to the animal facility. These animals were housed 3 mice per cage with proper wood chip bedding and easy access to food and water. Three of the cages, one from each experimental group, contained 4 mice simply because of housing space concerns. These mice were housed in a controlled environment for temperature…

In this essay I will be exploring how Curley’s wife is presented and developed in John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, which is set in 1930s America and focuses on the lives of the workers on Tyler Ranch. Curley’s wife is the only female on the ranch and Steinbeck examines how a hostile woman in a male dominated environment is portrayed, and then delves into her life and discovers the lonely, isolated little girl abandoned to live a life of a possession for a man who doesn’t even allow her to be known as something other than “Curley’s wife.”…
