Evaluating Sources of Information

To evaluate my work I use the tools in the CWE, The Grammar and Writing guide that is there to help me develop my writing and communication skills. Also the Plagiarism paper checker to verify whether my sources are correct and I have not copied someone else idea. There are labs that you can access to help you with your sources if you’re struggling on a particular assignment and live services that you can attend via the WebEx and teleconference for about an hour. You have to commit yourself to doing the research and then utilize the tools within the library to assist you in determining the relevancy of your sources, by associating the main idea of your source to the main idea of your paper. The plagiarism checker is a great tool to use in determining the text of your paper has not been copied or structured in a way that reflects another person idea. To determine whether or not your source is reliable depends in part on two key factors, the author and his/her credibility in their field. Credible authors will cite their sources so you can check the accuracy of what they have written and how they support their viewpoint. Also, are their views of a neutral nature, and in agreement with your subject, and do they coincide with your topic and main idea? Using the internet as a source can be tricky because it is difficult to determine who the author is, anyone can submit or change the content. Keeping to peer reviewed text is the most reliable, because they undergo a strict evaluation process. The library and its sources has been a useful guide for me in my recent assignments and no doubt in future tasks. The checks and balances that it provides can and will assist you in submitting a quality paper and hopefully giving you an A paper. It is important to remember the effort and work you put in to writing a quality paper benefits you in the long run and strengthens your

After finding information that supports your topic or argument, investigate the author(s) to verify credentials. If the article is written by an educator, go to the university or school’s web page and confirm employment. If their work is in a peer-reviewed journal then it is considered to be reliable. Each article in the journal undergoes an arduous review process and is assessed for accuracy by peers and experts. These journals include an…

On an ordinary day when we would see a cockroach or a small insect walking across the kitchen floor, the first and only thing that would flash into our mind is to get our hands on an insecticide and kill that blameless insect. From these little innocent insects in our homes we have moved to killing cows, pigs and turkeys to fulfil our dinner plates because we specifically farm them for food, therefore cause no change to the environment. What more do we now desire? What more do we human beings now desire? Last but definitely not lucky; the abundance killing of apex predators of the marine, SHARKS, not for food but for the threat they pose to us. We all know that we do not farm sharks for any means than why cull them and completely abolish the very few numbers left of them?…

I have learned to evaluate sources for their legitimacy, relevance, and authority through the Colby-Sawyer’s library website. The library website has a tab on “Bibliographies, Citations, and Academic Honesty.” The website tab provides different kinds of information including: OWL examples of citations, how to avoid plagiarism, how to create and evaluate different sources/citations, and academic honesty. Also by doing multiple of these “how to cite correctly in MLA and APA” exercises really helped me learned different scenarios of how to properly cite an article.…

It is nice to hear back from you and I would be glad to answer each one of your questions to the best of my ability. There are a lot of things that can be done on the internet. The internet is a wonderful thing to have access to. Having access to the internet can open up a new light to a whole different world. The internet connects people all over the world. The internet gives a person access to lots and lots of information that can be very valuable to them. It is very important in a lot of cases to know rather or not the information that you have accessed is reliable or not. Not know rather or not the information is reliable can cause some major problems. The way that I determine rather or not the information that I access is reliable is by looking for the author’s information so I can know who to give credit to for the information. I consider information credible when it contains a citation. I like to use information that is peer-reviewed because that to means that it is credible because it has been reviewed by other people and deemed to be credible. Knowing if information is credible is important but it is also important to know what to look for the signs that information may not be credible. I prefer to not use information if an author is not known unless I can prove it too credible in other ways. I do not like to use information that can be edited by other people because the information may be their opinion instead of a true fact. I do not like to use information that is out-dated because things in the world is changing at a rapid…

The way to go about determining if certain resources are adequate for college assignments would be through an evaluation process. In chapter five of the course material, it provides the six tests of evidence that helps to conclude if discovered information can be utilized for a paper. The first test is regarding credibility. If a source is credible it should be information based on fact rather than opinion. The next test to examine is if the material is unbiased. “Be sure founded information has room for other points of view about the issue so that the presentation of material in your paper is fair and balanced” (Sole, K. (2010). Writing College research papers. Another test to examine would be to verify if the information is relevant and relates to your topic. Next, is the source complete? “Do not take information out of context and mislead the reader by using only the portion of the information that supports your opinion about a topic” (Sole, K. (2010). Writing College research papers. The logical test is to make sure the information makes sense and is consistent with other known evidence. The final test would be to determine how current the resource is. Confirm the sources you use are as current as possible and have not been replaced by more recent research findings. Check to find the date an article was written or, if it has no date, check the copyright or revision date on the Web page to determine how recently the information was updated (Sole, K. (2010). Writing College research papers. An example of a suitable source would be an article from the Ashford Library, because Ashford Online Library have been archived by professional information management specialists, and Ashford University professional staff have selected specific databases for the library that are the most appropriate…

Some ways evaluation criteria affect the way I approach an assignment is by using the three resources it gives a written paper. The Grammarly online grammar checker is the most accurate tool for grammar correction. I think it is an outstanding tool for me because it helps me to improve my writing skills. The Grammarly offers helpful explanations of each mistake I make and it explains how the mistake might be corrected. When using the turnitin, it helps detect plagiarism; I think sometimes we as students do not realize how serious plagiarism can be. I try to always remember to cite any material that I may borrow. Using the rubrics is a great benefit for me, it helps decreases the likelihood that we as students will not argue about the grade that we received. It also helps to see why a point is lost on an assignment. When all resources are used correctly students will have better grades versus when not…
