Comparative advantage is the “theory that countries should specialize in the production of goods and services they can produce most efficiently” (Hill, McKaig, pg.170). Many countries are able to produce goods better than others due to factor endowments which are brought out in the Heckscher-Ohlin Theory and in Porter’s Diamond. Factor endowments are the extent to which a country is endowed with resources such as land, labour and capital (Hill, McKaig, pg.177). Costs are lowered if the resource is more abundant. With the case in Brazil, an increase in production due to more land available allowed for the increase in exports to China. This gave Brazil the competitive edge over the US who experienced a shortage in production of soybean due to drought.…

If there are any American Presidents who will go down in history, they should be Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) and Barrack Obama (2008 – Present). They both assumed office at a time when America’s economy was slumping. The American electorate voted them in office with the hope that they would recover the economy. Sure enough they did keep their promise to the American electorate, but still amidst a few challenges. Their approach to recovering the economy appeared quite dissimilar. While Reagan concentrated on cutting taxes and removing economic growth bottlenecks, Obama on the other hand focused on raising…

Obama and Reagan’s position in the United States both started during hard economic times. While Reagans term was during the inflation period, Obama also addressed the weak economy he was faced with when he took office. These presidents have different views and ideas of how government works and how much government should be involved in citizens personal lives. Reagan believed that the United States was “a nation that has a government – not the other way around.” He strongly believed that the government should only do what the people wanted it to and that the citizens of America granted it its power to do so, as he restated, “all of us need to be reminded that the Federal Government did not create the states; the states created the Federal…

To avoid our current recession, will Barack Obama choose to base his policies off of FDR’s in hopes that the same plan will work twice? There are some similarities and differences between the political action today and the action during the Great Depression.…

According to Stephen Walt, the theory of realism “emphasizes the enduring propensity for conflict between states” (Walt 30). In classical realist theory, this means that states have an “innate desire to dominate others” (Walt 31). In addition to these definitions, realists tend to embrace moral political principles, question American exceptionalism, and see the national interest as related to U.S. power (class notes). It seems that George Bush and President Obama both fall somewhere in between realist and liberal, with neither being completely ideologically consistent. However, in terms of policy as well as actions, George Bush was not a realist, and President Obama is.…

The power of being president, and all the endless decisions that comes with it. Barack Obama has the final say of the legislative, executive, and judicial branch. These three branches make up America’s politics. Now the president can’t govern a whole country all by himself, he needs help. In irony the president may be called the most powerful man in the world but his politicians also control the outcome of his decisions.
