A Presidential Pardon is important for someone who has committed a crime because the president has the unique ability to override the justice system, release anyone he chooses from paying a fine, and return a person to the state of innocence he had before he ever committed a crime. The power to pardon is left solely to the discretion of the president, and cannot be reviewed or overturned by any of the other branches of government. The President gets to "forgive" people from their crimes, or let them escape the rest of their criminal sentences. In other words, the president can let criminals out of jail and release criminals from their judicial sentences. In the United States, the President has the ability to pardon people only for federal

Under the constitution the President has military, legislative, appointment, and diplomatic power. Our framers of the constitution wanted a strong military but not complete seizure of the government. Diplomatic powers and appointment powers are also under senate’s approval. The President’s legislative power can be over ridden by congress so by far this is not one of the power points of presidency. The President has sole powers of pardons granted. Under circumstances of war and terrorism the president engages in the most power.…

Even while the Civil War was in progress, the “Union”, the federal government offered amnesty to confederate citizens in an attempt to encourage loyalty to the Union and to begin the process of reconstruction. The Confiscation Act of 1862 authorized the president of the United States to pardon anyone involved in the rebellion. The Amnesty Proclamation of December 8, 1863, offered pardons to those who had not held a Confederate civil office, had not mistreated Union prisoners, and would sign an oath of allegiance.…

As the United States Chief Justice, John Marshall changed several governmental standards. These standards include the change in the judicial system and strengthening the central government. “As man whose political doctrines led always…to strengthen government at the expense of the people,” this quote states that Marshall’s goal was only to improve the federal government at the expense of the states. Marshall had served at Valley Forge and had been impressed with the drawbacks of no central authority, thus he became a lifelong Federalist, committed to strengthening the power of the federal government. His theory of putting the central government over the states is a corrupt and damaging idea that will lead to future events, such as Marbury v. Madison, McCulloch v. Maryland, Cohens v. Virginia, and Gibbons v. Ogden. The power of the federal government should be left in the hands of the states.…

Joseph McCarthy and Donald Trump are two demagogues who have inflicted fear upon Americans as a way to consolidate their own political power. A Junior Senator from Wisconsin in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Joseph McCarthy, intuitively understood that Americans tend to fear what they don’t understand. They fear those who don’t look familiar. They fear the unknown. During the Cold War he exploited American’s fear of Communism in order to create a cult-like following. Sadly, seventy years later, the U.S. is once again being governed by those same fears with the election of President Donald Trump. Rather than invoking the evils of Communism, Trump preys on Americans’ fear of Muslims, Mexicans and any other immigrant group who, like…

The president is still a citizen of the United States; therefore laws apply to the president too. I do believe the president should have some power to ensure the safety of the people by possibly breaking laws, but this power could easily be abused. Like Richard Nixon, he did not have this power and still abused it. Also, the legislative and judicial branches do not have the power to make these decisions and nobody is considering allowing this. But, the constitution says all branches are equal in power and no branch should have complete control over something. How would the legislative and judicial branch check this power and how would they stop the president form abusing this power? If the country allows the president to break laws now, then eventually the country will allow the president to do something else and eventually the president will gain too much…

Ford could have been impeached because he chose to presidentially pardon ex-president Richard Nixon for his role in the Watergate scandal. The Watergate scandal that made the majority of American citizen even more distrustful of the government of the United States. The fact that the Electoral College didn’t even elect him to the presidential seat may have increased the probability of him becoming impeached because it meant that he could have known about his predecessor’s questionable actions and been a part of it. He was vice president so one would think that he and the president would work rather closely because of their job titles and if one is working so closely together how Ford could not notice what Nixon was doing. Ford pardoning Nixon’s actions could have clued someone that they were in cahoots together and fostered even more distrust between the people of America and the government. The government could have had him impeached to save face and held him accountable for Nixon’s because of him the people of American were going to think that the government meant to pardon Nixon and it was all an even bigger conspiracy then the public already thought.…
