    Governor Arthur Phillip

Governor Arthur Philip should be considered an Australian Legend because he was the first to interact with the Indigenous Australians in respectful way. Governor Arthur Phillip interacted with the Indigenous Australians in a positive and polite way, he meant them no harm: he believed that he could communicate with them without any violence; he didn’t want innocent people to die due to a small misunderstandings. Phillip wanted to learn about the Aboriginal culture, food and language and he wanted the Aboriginal people to know about the English culture. Reasons supporting this argument are that there were a few hardships in the relationship between the European people. `Aboriginal people threw stones at the European ships, stole food and tools from the English men’. Evidence states that `Phillip’s convicts stole spears, fishing equipment and canoes from the Aboriginal people’. “There where great differences between the European and Aboriginal people”. The European people had little understanding in the way Aboriginal people lived and what their beliefs were. It was believed that the Aboriginals did not understand the English/European practices such as farming and land ownership. Phillip should be considered an Australian legend because he had high beliefs that harming the Natives will bring nothing positive. He treated the Aboriginals just like they were his men, he ordered his convicts and marines to treat them with respect, and anyone that killed a Native would be hanged as punishment. Therefore Governor Arthur Phillip should be considered an Australian legend because he was the first to interact with Indigenous Australians in a respectful…

From 1917 until 1989 the Philippines was under the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. They had been a U.S colony until 1946 and America still had an immense amount of influence over the country and its leaders. Marcos had been the President since 1965, due to conflict between communist and the government he ended their established congress and put many of their politicians in prison. Amongst them was Senator Benigo Aquino, who would later serve as a very important symbol that helped to drive the revolution due to his assassination while trying to acquire democracy in the Philippines. There was so much tension between the government and the people that it would seem like it was only a matter of time before it became violent. It was because of the Catholic Church, Aquino’s widow Corazon, and lastly and equally important was the JAJA (Justice for Aquino, Justice for All) that it didn’t. Cardinal Jamie Sin was described in Padraic Kenney’s 1989 Democratic Revolutions as one of Pope John Paul the second’s closest allies, which without a doubt made him a very influential man. It was odd that he took such a strong stance on voting in the election that Marcos agreed to have. He went as far as to tell the people of the Philippines that it was just a political act that it was important to them as Christians to vote because it would be helping to make peace…

Sociology tries to determine the laws governing human behavior in social contexts; it is sometimes distinguished as a general social science from the special social sciences, such as economics and political science, which confine themselves to a selected group of social facts or relations.…

In March 1897 Emilio Aguinaldo was elected President of a revolutionary government at the Tejeros Convention.[14] The new government was meant to replace the Katipunan as a government, though the latter was not formally abolished until 1899. Aguinaldo was again elected President at Biak-na-Bato in November, leading the Biak-na-Bato Republic. Exiled in Hong Kong after the Pact of Biak-na-Bato, with the advent of the Spanish-American War he returned to the Philippines to renew revolutionary activities and formed a dictatorial government on May 24, 1898. Revolutionary forces under his command declared independence on June 12, 1898. On June 23, 1898, Aguinaldo transformed his dictatorial government into a revolutionary government. On January 23, 1899, he was then elected President of the Philippine Republic (Spanish: República Filipina), a government constituted by the Malolos Congress. Thus, this government is also called the Malolos Republic. Sovereignty over the Philippines passed from Spain to the United States with the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Spanish-American War. Aguinaldo's government effectively ceased to exist on April 1, 1901, when he pledged allegiance to the United States after being captured by U.S. forces in March. The current Philippine government, formally called the Republic of the Philippines, considers Emilio Aguinaldo to be the first President of the Philippines and the Malolos Republic as the "First" Philippine Republic.[15…
