Pressure In Romeo And Juliet

One cause that lead Romeo and Juliet to their deaths was the pressure that came from Juliet’s parents. In the beginning of the play, when the audience is introduced to Juliet, Lady Capulet, who is her mother, discusses marriage with hert. This adds pressure to Juliet because she is only thirteen years old, and she had no desire to get married. “‘Tell me, daughter Juliet, how stands your disposition to be married?’ ‘It is an honor that I dream not of’” (I, iii, 66-68). Later in the play, her father, Lord Capulet, decides to marry her away, to a man named Paris, with short notice. This adds pressure because Romeo and Juliet were already married, for two days to be exact and without their families knowing, but Juliet wanted to follow her beliefs
