I chose this topic because i feel that it is a common pressure faced by the youth of todays society. In this essay i am going to write about the pressures faced by teenage girls from the media to be attractive to the opposite sex, the pressures from boys in an intimate relationship, and the pressure from society to behave and act in a certain way towards boys to fit in and impress them. I am hoping to find imformation on this topic so that i can fully understand it, and work out ways to overcome the pressures so that i am prepared if i ever find myself in the situation.
Teenage girls are pressured to do things in intimate relationships that they may not feel comfortable or ready to do. These pressures may be sexual, emotional or physical and often leave young women feeling depressed and anxious. They also may lead to suicide, pregnancy, injury, trust issues, feelings of worthlessness, and much more.
In an intimate relationship young women may be faced with peer pressure from their boyfriend to have sexual intercourse or other sexual interactions. If they don’t obey their boyfriend, they may face abuse. These kinds of relationships are very unhealthy, however, they are all too common in society. In fact, 1 in 4 teenage girls who have been in relationships reveal they have been pressured to perform oral sex or engage in intercourse, 23% teen girls are pressured to have sex and 10% percent of young women aged 18-24 who had sex before age 20 reported that their first sex was involuntary.
This is a serious issue, but it can be stopped. By being assertive, and identifying a bad situation before it gets too serious are good ways to prevent pressure in intimate relationships.
Although this is the main pressure faced by young women, it is not the only one.
Young women in todays society face many pressures from the media to be attractive to boys by dressing and looking a certain way which is considered ‘attractive’. Forms of media such as magazines, posters, tv shows and advertisements have created a false image of whats considered beautiful. Teenage girls are impacted by this the most, and spend most of their lives trying to live up to it. They feel like they should resemble this idea of beauty so that the opposite sex will find them sexually attractive and so that they are accepted in society. The pressure to be attractive is all-consuming and causes serious body image issues. A study has shown that 1 in 4 people are depressed about their body, and almost half of the girls in a recent survey say that they think the pressure to look good is the worst thing about being female.
The pressure to look and dress attractively is followed by another pressure to behave and act in a sexual way towards boys.
Teenage girls face a pressure from society and their peers to behave and act in a certain way so that the opposite sex will find them attractive and be interested in them. This often gives the girls a feeling of acceptance and makes them feel as though they are ‘liked’ and fit in.
Young women are often peer-pressured to act in a sexual way towards boys. This may involve participating in sexual activities, flirting, and sexualising their image and appearance around boys. The pressure often comes from other girls and the media, especially television shows and movies. When girls respond to this pressure, it often leads to embarrasment, regret and damage to their reputation.
Teenagers face many pressures, and i feel that one of the most important ones is in intimate relationships and with the opposite sex. It occurs more often than we think, and it needs to stop. In conclusion, the pressures faced by young woman in todays society to act, dress and behave in certain ways dictate many of our actions, and are often driven by the desire to feel accepted and fit in.

Today, there are new stereotypes for young women that are very much alive, and unfortunately they’ve gotten more drastic and cause grief in many of their lives. Once, the idea of how girls were supposed to behave was beneficial to them in some ways, which is assumed to be the reason they were created in the first place. Today, the toxic concepts are that of those that the media has poisoned young women with. Due to popular celebrity idols, young women are led to believe that in order to fit in, and be “popular”, they must dress scantily, hold the sexual attention of the young males that surround them, and party with the “popular” crowd. Models today encourage young women to be unreasonably skinny, encouraging behaviors such as eating disorders, drugs, and unhealthy diet rituals. Celebrity female music artists encourage young women to carry sex appeal, attracting unwanted attention from men young and old that may cause them more problems in their already complicated transitions. And now, even certain television shows encourage young woman to become pregnant at a young age when they are not ready for it because the idea is glamorized by making it to the “big screen”.…

Parental pressure can prevent young adults from accomplishing their goals. Often the decisions parents make for their children do not please their children. Parents believe because they have more life experience they know what's best for their children. Many children's desires are suppressed because they ignore their own dreams to please their parents. The parents are happy, but the children are miserable.…

Coercive sexuality is an important factor in American Pie movie. In this movie, audiences can see different pictures of teenagers trying to experiences sexual intercourse for the first time in their lives (Zide, Perry, and Weitz, 1999). And the more aggressive they are, people can see coercive sexuality involved in different scenes. Coercive sexual behavior among students has been an area of concern to society. At the time when human sexuality topic becomes so popular in teenagers’ world, those students in the movies let people understand more about their points of views about sexuality. The question that I want to address in this paper is: Do we as a society treat some coercive sexuality as acceptable, or even desirable? In what way do the attitudes towards these mirrors the attitudes of our society in general? It would shocked some people how teens think about sex so openly and wrongfully, which against many basic human morality.…

(BBC network, 2014). It can also force people to change in character, which is a growing concern. Sexualisation in our society has become extremely prevalent within the younger female gender. Some may dismiss this issue as no more than yet another moral panic situation between sexuality and young girls, but some see this as a serious subject and some of these people are in fact the girls being targeted (Church, 2014). The music industry with their music videos is one of the major influences contributing to the sexualisation of young girls. With the raunchy outfits and extreme sex appeal that music videos are displaying, gives an explanation for the increasingly sexualised behaviour with teen girls. There are many ways in which adolescent girls can be influenced by the sexualisation of the music industry. Ways such as, advertising clothing which is low cut, skimpy and sexually leading, masking young girls in makeup to make them look more attractive, and having a promiscuous outlook to the opposite sex at a young age. The constant contradiction between remaining innocent but looking visually irresistible to young males for young girls is becoming harder on account of the social normalities for youths in this generation. Are we putting too much undue pressure on young girls to look a certain way?…

Even though teenagers are stubborn, as said before, they are also in a confused stage of their life where they deal with body and emotional changes. Teenagers are known to be very hormonal. When the media outlets keep projecting sex symbols such as famous Britney Spears or other known women in crop t-shirts this gives out a message that in order to be successful or famous this is what a girl needs to do. The media focuses on the physical appearance which makes girls, like the one in the documentary trying out to be a model, to believe that is the only way up the ladder. For males on the other hand, the media puts out an image that if a boy is inappropriate and a jerk that is the way they're going to be loved and wanted by girls. Media outlets film midriff and mook teenagers and air it on television so that e teenagers watching can have a reaction of "that's so cool, I want to be like them". This is where teenagers imitate other teenagers that are projected doing things the product producers themselves told them to do.…
