Negative capability is simply developing the habit of suspending the need to judge everything that crosses your path. Which allows people to entertain a broader range of ideas and experiment with those ideas, which makes their work better and more inventive. (Greene, 2012, p. 182-183). Preston Bailey experiences this with his high end clients when they ask for ridiculous request simple because they have the money to splurge. He puts no judgment on it and treats the request as a challenge. Allowing for serendipity is by having an open spirit and widen your search into other fields. I would say Preston stumbled upon the event planning aspect as he was initially only making floral arrangements for high end clients. His amazing work at a small level is what lead him to opportunities to plan large events. Alternating the mind through “the current”, is the constant dialogue between our thoughts and reality (Greene, 2012, p. 189). When you allow yourself to speculate and imagine it can sometimes pull you from the present leaving you to not fully observe the moment and letting it pass by. In the profile Dr. Thomas Young, the medical doctor who was a candidate to become the first decipher the Rosetta stone. After the discovery he threw himself in to studying it so that he could understand and be a master at it. However, he eventually gave up due to the language and writing on it. It wasn’t till Jean-Francois Champollion came around and thought in a different perspective. He further submerged himself with in Egypt’s culture that he learned the language so the he could become the first to decipher the stone. Although he struggled over the years with different hypotheses he took a break and came back years later with a new perspective. He started to think with his original mind since he was starting fresh. This lead him to open up and think more Dimensionally. Creatively thinking of different ways to accomplish the decoding of the language on the stone. I believe this relates to Preston in a few ways. One being to not give up even if you don’t have the knowledge you can learn it. Preston was self-taught and didn’t have any business plans or much guidance in his journey. Since he was stepping in to a field he knew little to nothing about he had to be creative just like Champollion. After trying numerous times, he eventually became an expert with being a decipher of hieroglyph (Greene, 2012, p. 236-242). Preston was able to do the same and Master his field in Floral
