Pretty Little Liars
If you’re looking for a quick, entertaining and juicy read, the Pretty Little Liars series could be a good companion for a rainy afternoon. We won’t be chattin’ philosophy, science or complex issues by the close of the final (cliffhanger of a) page, but that’s not what this is all about. This was cotton candy: fluffy and fun. And with six additional books in Shepard’s series, there’s plenty more where this snack of a story came from.Pretty Little Liars is a series of young-adult novels by author Sara Shepard, beginning with 2006's initial novel of the same name. The series follows the lives of four girls – Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, and Emily Fields. The novels have appeared on the The New York Times Best Seller list. A television series adaptation …show more content…

Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily all have struggles with “A” which you assume is Alison. They are fighting against her to keep their friendship and personal secrets hidden. They are also fighting with themselves. They are reminded about all the mistakes, trials, and secretes that they have tried to hide in their past. Pretty Little Liars is the epitome of a fast read; I finished it in two days of inconsistent reading. Each time I went to pick it up, I found myself fumbling along for the next page to figure out what sort of trouble the girls had found themselves in this time. Alternating between the past and the present, the novel’s quick pace definitely helped the novel’s feeling of urgency. In Lying: A Metaphorical Memoir, Lauren Slater attempts to create a new kind of truth called metaphorical truth: emotional truth explained using metaphors instead of facts. She confuses fact and fiction even though it is a memoir and thus creates a convoluted tale of herself where she may or may not be epileptic. Initially, the readers believe that she uses metaphorical truth to make them understand the essence of her life. By the end of the book, they begin to also believe that she wants to ask them, as a last resort, to help her in her healing process by the following: giving her much need attention and through that, letting her clear her conscience of guilt over the wrong acts that she had committed. They feel that she is successful in this aim because of the use of metaphorical truth. Firstly, this metaphorical truth gives rise to two different emotions within groups of readers that motivate the same overall action of them helping her. Secondly, it acts as a leverage to ensure that they cannot critically judge her.…

This story is fascinating because both of the major characters are well rounded and dynamic. They also contrast with each other. Twyla’s hard heart and Roberta’s need for excitement. Roberta’s remorse at the end of the story shows not only how her guilt has preyed on her for years, but how Twyla has rationalized her form of the truth. Though readers will never know what exactly happened to Maggie, we can learn a lot about the characters from how they dealt with the…

The main character of the novel, Olivia, has not had a steady home environment as she has been shifted to many different foster homes. Although, she is a brilliant student when she is there. Olivia gets arrested for forging some stolen checks and then gets sent to jail. Detention center was her next stop because her foster mom said she was too much work. Ultimately, Olivia serves her time and goes to college, where she is very successful. Olivia’s story is an example of how Corwin structures his book. He uses anecdotes to give readers insight into the students lives. In addition, he organizes the novel into different times of the year so the readers can follow the students in chronological order. Corwin is effective using this strategy because it makes the readers feel apart of the story. The sequencing the novel by seasons and semesters gives readers the feeling that they are apart of the high school. Another strategy Corwin uses is portraying multiple Americas. He does this by showing us the struggle filled lives of most students and the fortunate lives of the others. For example, Toya has to overcome being a teen mother while still getting an education whereas Curt is raised by a single mother, but in Los Angeles’ wealthiest black community. Corwin…

The book was actually a novel for adults rather than young adults. Ally didn’t instantly drift towards writing young adult books, but she quickly discovered that she felt more comfortable writing for the younger crowd. Therefore, her next novels to come were more to her liking. Ally’s first young adult novel was published in April of 2006. That book goes by the name of “I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You.” This novel is the first installment of the series “The Gallagher Girls,” this series of books happens to be one of her most famous works. “The Gallagher Girls” is where all of the spies come into play. It is about a girl named Cammie who goes to an all girls school called The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. Of course, this academy is no ordinary academy. These girls are taught advanced martial arts in PE class, and they break CIA codes for extra credit in their computer class. These action-packed books are a whirlwind of thrills and…

I chose the TV series Pretty Little Liars to do my final exam project on. There are many sociology concepts in this TV series Pretty Little Liars. One of the sociology concepts are intersex. Intersex is when a female or a male are born with lack of their hormones. Pretty Little Liars distributes this concept many times in this series. Emily is Lesbian. In the scene I chose for the video was Emily and Sabrina kiss. They are dating. Emily and Sabrina represent intersex because they are both females, and they’re both into females. Emily tried to date guys but it just wasn't right for her. Ever since Alison kissed her she didn't want any guy she wanted Alison. She finally got over Alison and dated the new girl in town that moved into Alison's old house. Emily met Sabrina in a coffee shop down town. They had a bond where they knew they liked one another.…

In each short story, the main characters betray someone who once brought them happiness. Charlottes first day of high school is uneventful until she attends her second period class, where she encounters her favourite elementary school teacher, Miss Hancock. When Charlotte first witnesses her classmates ' negative reaction to Miss Hancock, she feels "...somewhere between shocked embarrassment and a terrible desire for concealment"(Wilson189). Charlotte is so focused on fitting in with her new peers that she ends up betraying Miss Hancock by treating her poorly like everyone else. As the school year progresses Charlotte avoids any relationship with Miss Hancock which saddens her and hinders her teaching confidence. Along with her avoidance of Miss Hancock, Charlotte 's betrayal is more evident when she hides her love of literature from her. I have been lucky enough to not have much failure in my life so far. So today I am going to write about a mistake I have made in the past. One mistake that I will never forget is the time I let my cousin and sister bully someone and didn't stop them. A few years ago my sister and cousin started watching the hit ABC series 'Pretty Little Liars.' They though it would be funny to send notes to one of there friends signed as 'A' like the show. At first they just did notes in the girls locker but then it started to escalate. They went as far as cutting her hair during class and putting it into her locker to scare her. The whole time they were doing it I knew what they were planning and didn't stop them. I could've easily told on them to stop the…
