Prince Rossignol Analysis
Scene 20. A dark cell.

FLORA is chained to a post, staring off into the distance as if in a dream..

FLORA: Oh Rossignol, I remember so clearly those days we spent in your summer castle. Why, you find it so different from this sad place. There, the sun shone in every hall of the keep, while here, no candle is so bright as to break through the darkness. There was a chandelier in your castle, all lit up with crystals and candles. One day, will we ever see it again?

(The LORD GENERAL enters the cell. ROSSIGNOL follows, posing as a guard, with his face obscured by his helmet.)

LORD GENERAL: Look at her, isn’t she a pretty little flower? The spoils of war, boy.

FLORA: War spoils all. You are wrong to glorify it so, Lord General.

LORD GENERAL:

You have some nerve. Come boy, and let me cut out your tongue!

(The LORD GENERAL draws his sword.)

ROSSIGNOL: Oh, but I have a name indeed. Mark it well: I am Prince Rossignol. I am your torment, and I am your salvation from this sad fate of yours. Find yourself a sow to marry, hog. Princess Flora belongs to me!

(The two men clash swords. They fight, and ROSSIGNOL disarms the LORD GENERAL, who falls to the floor.)

LORD GENERAL: Do it, boy. Kill me quick.

ROSSIGNOL: Kill you? You deserve no such reprieve. Your castle is fallen by now. You shall face judgement in the eyes of royal law. Get up, and face the carnage outside. Take one last look at this toppling fortress you call a home. Go!

(The LORD GENERAL exits quickly, leaving FLORA and ROSSIGNOL alone.)

FLORA: Rossignol! My prince!

ROSSIGNOL releases FLORA from her bindings, and they embrace.

ROSSIGNOL: Flora, my poor Flora, I’m so sorry I took so long. What God above would forgive me, for letting you suffer so long in this evil place?

FLORA: Rossignol, it does not matter. You have grown so old, my nightingale…You only had the beginnings of hair on your upper lip when last I saw you. But it seems this war has changed only your exterior: you are still that gallant prince I knew long ago. For a moment, I was afraid he would die, that sorry creature. Then, I saw as you stayed your

He wished to enjoy his last week of summer, so he assured himself that he would ride his bike throughout San Francisco. Malcolm biked from one hill to the next, passing through the busy streets of SF. As Malcolm came across a small garden besides an old, vacant antique shop, Malcolm noticed a dim light coming from the garden. Malcolm approaches the light, yearning to see what lies before him and he discovers the light is being reflected off of a lamp. The lamp was not damaged, but looked as if it had not been touched in years. Very fond of the lamps orchird-like color, Malcolm decided to bring the lamp home. Malcolm arrives to his house in about twenty-five minutes and sprints to his room, slamming the door behind him. He dazes at the lamps beauty and rubs off the remaining stains on the lamp. As a result of this, clouds begin to fill Malcolm's room, causing him to grow fearful of the situation. Thus, a magical genie that was trapped inside the lamp comes…

The bells on the cushion jangled when Emperor Leroy slammed a fist onto the armrest and Prince Cyrillus gave a strangled cry. Blossoming across his face was a welt, raw and angry under the glimmer of the emperor's golden magic. With eyes as sharp as a freshly-whetted blade, Aloysius held up his hand. Spirals of purple energy bristled against his skin, but the welt on Prince Cyrillus’ face began to blister and Aloysius bit down on his lips.…

Dear diary, I am writing to tell you that I have forgotten about Rosaline in my heart and that at ball, at the Capulet’s I have fallen in love, from the first moment I saw her, and she unclasp my heart, and treed it from the thing I thought I loved and fixed it only on her. You see the moment I laid sight upon her; she engulfed my feelings upon her, and made me forget about Rosaline. The only shocked I had was after the tender kissed I got from laying my lips on hers, was that I later on learned that she was a Capulet. She is a…

I pray to thee, mother, send me to Mantua where Romeo hath fled. Alternatively, perhaps, if sending me away does not appeal to you, I beg you; delay the marriage so that we may talk this out peacefully like civilized persons. If neither proposal interests you, you will have to marry the Count to my grave! I speak the truth. Right at this minute, I hath a sharp blade hidden beneath the folds of my dress. It quivers in impatience to pierce my skin. Mother, I now trust you with my life. Please handle it with care.…

The girl thinks she cannot trust her mother, she thinks her mother is plotting against her "to get me to stay in the house more, although she knew I hated it"(pg.195). She thinks her mother`s work is not as important as her father's. More importantly, inside work she finds "endless, dreary, and peculiarly depressing"(pg.194) and outside work "ritualistically important"(pg.194). In the stories she tells herself every night, she fills them with heroic moments of her being the heroine in these stories, shows how she intends to become someone who makes a difference in the world. While she wishes to become the heroic woman of her dreams, it is the opposite of the stereotypical girl her family insists her to become. As she struggles to find her identity, she is expresses her identification with a horse called Flora. Furthermore, Flora is a beautiful, powerful and rebellious horse who is for fox meat, but escapes from the farm and when the girl is able to stop her she lets Flora go. Subsequently, the girl did not close the gate, but left it open so she could freely escape "I did not make any decision to do this, it was just what I…
