Introduction
This unit develops understanding of the values and principles that underpin the practice of all those who work in health and social care. The essay consider theories and policies that underpin health and social care practice and explore formal and informal mechanisms required to promote good practice by individuals in the workforce, including strategies that can influence the performance of others. The first part of this essay will consider how principles of support are implemented by using Overton house residential care home to evaluate and explain how principles of support are applied. Key concepts such as person-centred approach and dilemmas and conflicts arising from the provision of care are explained. This is followed by explaining and evaluation of own responsibilities, accountabilities and duties in working in the care home and to make recommendation for development. The last section will use leaflet development to evaluate the theoretical underpin of health and social and practical application

1. Explain how principles of support are applied to ensure that individuals are cared for in the care home. (P1, M1)
The principles of support for those living in the care home demands that service users are treated with dignity by being respected by carers. Service users should live their lives to the full with full rights as citizens and entitled to live as full and active life as their physical and mental condition will allow. If this is not achieved then the home becomes like a prison sentence where residents spend the rest of their lives in pain, fear and in isolation.
In Overton House Residential Care Home is an exceptional home where the key principle of support is applied. Here residents are treated with respect and dignity, their self-esteem in maintained, independence of residents upheld, residents are allowed choice and control in making decision, diversity
