The organization’s successes could be attributed to the unique niche the CEO was able to fill for consumers mixed with old fashioned luck. Yes However, relying on these attributes to carry the business indefinitely would be ill advised. The largest risk in not utilizing strategic planning is failing to anticipate for fundamental changes in customer expectations, employee morale, regulatory requirements, competitive pressures, and economic changes. The company may lose valuable lead time and momentum when trying to catch up to these changes that could be severely detrimental to the company (Olsen). The first order of business for CanGo to move the company to the next stages and build a sustainable business would be to generate a vision statement, mission statement, and a specific strategic plan that can be used as roadmaps for the company’s next two to five years of operation. These elements should be considered the most important and immediate objectives for the top management of the company. They will form the basis of all other business…

For this discussion, I thought I would look at any studies I could find regarding the diet “supplement” called Sensa. I’ve heard advertisements about it, but I didn’t know what it was. At first I thought it was a drug, which is why I selected it for this discussion posting. After further reading, I found it would be classified more as a supplement or food item; however, what I learned was so interesting I continued with the subject for this posting. I learned that it is a “flavor enhancer” that one sprinkles on one’s food. The creator of the supplement, Alan Hirsch, MD, is a psychiatrist who was studying the effect of the senses on diet. The idea is that the sprinkles enhance the flavor and smell of your food, so that you feel satisfied and don’t overeat. After researching it, I decided to discuss the one study I could find related to this supplement. While it shows the hypothesis test and other descriptive statistics, I think the study is flawed; all the better to discuss it on this forum.…

The music recording industry is in trouble. For several years now, sales of new and popular music have steadily declined and show no sign of changing. The record companies are quick to blame the growing popularity of the Internet; music is being traded in a digital form online, often anonymously, with the use of file-sharing programs such as Morpheus, KaZaA, and Imesh, to name a few. The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) succeeded in disbanding the pioneer Internet file-sharing program, Napster, but is facing confrontation with similar programs that are escaping American copyright laws. While there is an obvious connection between declining popular music sales and increasing file sharing, there is more going on than the RIAA wants to admit. I will show that the recording companies are overpricing their products, and not sufficiently using the Internet as an opportunity to market and sell their products. I shall begin by describing in greater detail the problem that the recording companies are facing, as well as the growing epidemic of online music trading. From there, I will show the correlation between the two and describe the other factors affecting record sales, and how these trends could be turned around to help the industry.…

Media piracy can be defined as the process of the distribution of someone else’s work without their legal consent. Karaginis (2011, p1) believes that piracy has arisen as the consequence of a ‘global pricing problem’. Panethiere (2005, p9) refers to piracy as ‘the activity of manufacturing unauthorised copies of protected material and dealing with such copies by way of distribution and sale.’ As the prices of media goods have risen, so have the issues surrounding piracy, due to the demand of consumers for sourcing cheaper and more cost efficient means of accessibility. Lessig (2004, p62) states that ‘the recording industry estimate that it loses about $4.6 billion every year to physical piracy’. This emphasises just how serious an issue piracy is, due to the fact that many media distribution companies are losing out on large amounts of income.…

This initiative is taken to tame the rogue users of the music provided online by making mandatory the consumer rights in the field of online contents. According to Rott, setting up mandatory rules on sales law would set limits to party autonomy, in safeguarding a minimum quality of the product that cannot be abrogated by contract (452). Under the current American copyright law passed in 1976, legal protection is solely provided to the copyright owners assigned and it only covers exclusive rights for the original works through composition from which they can be perceived as real owners, reproducers, or otherwise communicated in the contract (Bai, 62). The Copyright of 1976 law was meant to update the prior law that existed since 1909. The laws then prohibited nearly every aspect of media practice making the music industry rigid and insufficient. Likewise, the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 sought to include the use of the internet but would face some of the biggest challenge in the industry. The timing was due as the introduction of online streaming had already been welcomed and that despite the acknowledgment of the technology in various ways it did welcome the option for downloading of musical content. On the contrary individual members of the entertainment industry highly expectant in this technology, but feared that internet users would easily get away with important files which could otherwise be illegally acquired or download video and audio files from the internet. In general, the legalizing of music download and considering the intentions as fair use and fair industry practice would amount to enhancing the copyright laws. The online music users are always satisfied with current musical work which cannot be replaced by anything simpler and market…
