INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this critique is to take an in-depth look at the business plan submitted by Private Concepts Inc. Through the course of this paper, we will examine specific components of the business plan, from an investor and consumer point of view. We will assess the feasibility of the “Pevlon Home Cervical Cancer Screen”, and review the plan to bring the product to market.
BACKGROUND:
Cervical cancer is a growing risk for women worldwide. Currently, in order to get diagnosed, a woman has to set up an appointment with a health professional and endure a physical exam which many find uncomfortable both from physical discomfort of the procedure and mental unpleasantness from having sensitive areas exposed at a impersonal level.
Private Concepts Inc. has proposed the development, production and distribution of an at home testing kit, the Pevlon screen, to test for cervical cancer. This would be completed in three phases:
Phase I: Product Development / Clinical Trials
Phase II: FDA Approval
Phase III: Initial Marketing & Production
Phase I has already been set into motion. Dr. Patrick Pevoto has already developed the product and initial trials have begun. At this time more extensive trials need to be completed, however, alongside FDA approval.
Phase II, FDA Approval, will take approximately three years to complete. Once completed the product can be marketed and sold in the United States. Upon the completion of Phase II, Phase III can begin immediately with marketing and eventual production of the product.
