Privilege is a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. Additionally, oppression is unjust treatment or control and in these cases the oppression against people. As can be seen, in the first photo on my padlet for privilege and oppression is a group of white men making decisions to stay in power. This picture is a good representation of pg. 79, because it discusses the “institutions” of privileges, such as being a white male. The second photo below the first on the left (pg. 74, 75) is a quote regarding oppression against women. Next, I have a video of comedian Louis CK relating to “Daily Effects of White Privilege" (pg. 76). This video also talks about how people would not change being privileged, but don’t necessarily want other people to be oppressed. Below that video, I have a picture of a tweet relating to pg. 73. For every privilege there is oppression and skin color can just be observed, compared to some other privileges that people may not suspect. To the left, there is a picture of three individuals tossing waste into a wastebasket. The individuals are all doing the task at the same time, but because they are in different places the effort that goes into making it is not the same, relating to the bootstraps myth on page 82. Additionally, to the right there is a quote stating a lot can be said about a culture by how women are treated there. The bottom left is a video of Anne Hathaway speaking out about unpaid paternity leave for women and the lack of leave available for men in reference to the Medical Leave Act of 1993 page 90.
