You can't deny somebody the right to get married without touching discrimination. " On July 25, 2014 Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Sarah Zabel ruled Florida's gay marriage ban unconstitutional and stated that the ban serves only to hurt, to discriminate, to deprive same-sex couples and their families of equal dignity, to label and treat them as second-class citizens, and to deem them unworthy of participation in one of the fundamental institutions of our society."(ProCon.org) Opposing gay marriage is just flat out wrong, you can't just treat some citizen of the country one way and favor the others, that is 100% discrimination, and unconstitutional. Some people might argue and say that it's strictly a religious matter, however, that's not true, marriage is also a secular matter. Secondly telling gay people they can't get married isn't a religious freedom its abuse. Because if you were to base your argument off of the fact that gay people can't get married because of your religion, that's flat our crazy, one because not everyone in this country, or the world is of the same religion, and secondly, I can just go an make a religion were gay people are allowed to get married, and that ok because that what we believe in. Other people maybe argue that it says in the bible that gays getting married is an abomination, however, this country was founded on the fact that there is separation of church and state, which make that argument invalid as…
Did you know that same sex couples don't get the same benefits as different sex couples (same sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by all hetero sexual married couples). There are ll38 benefits, rights and protections available to married couples in federal law alone, according to a general accounting office assessment (same sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoed by all hetero sexual marnied couples). The reason that they don't have these rights is because same people's religious beliefs and political view are biased toward gays (Raimondo). The point is that people in the lgbtq should have the rights that they deserve.…
What is Pro-Choice? Pro-Choice refers to the belief that a woman has the right to abort a baby from her body. Most people do not know how they stand on this subject. Usually a touchy subject, it is often kept a secret. I did extensive research on this subject after my older sister got an abortion. At first I was upset by the fact that she did it but now I realize that it was her choice and not mine. I feel that a woman has the right to do what she wants to her body. If a woman does not feel that she can raise a child then she should be able to do whatever she wants. If a woman gets an abortion in a case where she cannot raise the child then that is one less child put into foster care. During this speech I will inform you of the background on abortion, the different types of abortion, and also the main reasons to be pro-choice.…
If someone were to ask me if I thought Homosexuals should be allowed to marry, I would say definitely. Allowing same sex marriage will give gay couples access to rights such as inheritance, health coverage, and adoption. Same sex couples should be allowed to have access to marriage benefits just like any other couple. It is not fair for society to shun gays. I feel that we should all be accepting to their lifestyles. Homosexuality is not any different than a normal couple. Love has no boundaries and is controlled by what ones feels inside their hearts.…
For the past thousand years, marriage has been recognized as the social union between a man and a woman. In most cultures across the globe, homosexuality was viewed with disdain and marriages between same sex couples were forbidden. Same sex marriages should not be supported because of the negative effects they will create on families and society.…
There are many reasons why we have the Bill of Rights and one of them is to create equal protection amendments. Denying marriage to a homosexual couple is not anymore different than denying marriage between a Hispanic, Black or any other minority couple. Rejecting homosexual couples is a violation of religious freedom and minority discrimination. What right does the government have to say in who can’t get married? Would you like it if people vote for your marriage? I didn’t think so, its obviously unfair for strangers that have never met you in your life to chose your future. Its very likely and very much proven through evidence and research that homosexuality is genetic. Is the government going to ban unfertile or disable people from getting married too? Our country is supposed to be based on Liberty, Justice, and Equality, not pure ignorance.…
Denying them is a violation of religious freedom (civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions). The main reason for denying marriage to gay couples is that all major religions consider homosexuality a sin. Virtually every religion in the world, including the major ones in this country, considers homosexuality unacceptable. It is offensive and a swipe to the religious freedom of the majority to have to recognize a relationship they consider sinful. The legal system in the United States evolved out of the laws contained in the Bible. However, the First Amendment of the Constitution clearly states that a person’s religious views or lack thereof must be protected. Marriage by the state is a secular activity; the government cannot start making laws just because a religion says they should.…
Whether it’s due to personal reasons, economic reasons, or unemployment, sometimes people need the opportunity to leave their nation and move somewhere new. Either to build onto what they already have or start over completely, moving to another country provides a very appealing alternative to the state of their current lifestyle. Often times this ends up in illegal immigration, which has more positive effects than people are led to believe. At one point in time America relied on outsiders so much that they were willing to enslave them in order to. Like many other settler societies, the United States, before it achieved independence and afterward, relied on the flow of newcomers from abroad to occupy its unsettled lands. They had land and capital but lacked people to do the farming, lumbering, mining, hunting, etc (Diner, Hasia). Before long the African slave trade came into effect, bringing millions of migrants, against their will, into the United States. Now that America is thriving, laws are in place restricting entry into the country without hassle, and some are faced with deportation.…
Gay marriages have been one of the hottest and controversial topics in our society. There are still problems concerning this issue of homosexuality and gay marriages. Same sex marriages are legal in Hawaii, but in all other states couples must be of the opposite sex to form a marriage. Hawaii’s decision to legalize same sex marriages is considered a milestone victory for gays and may cause a ripple affect for similar action in other states. Those who support gay marriages justify their position by the concept of love. These supporters of gay marriages feel as though gay people are being deprived of their right to love. Many people believe that gay people deserve the right to love and to take that love and form a marriage. These people believe that gays want to feel justified, meaning that as a couple they should be able to define their own marriage for themselves and make their own set of rules. Supports of same-sex marriages feel as though homosexuals are being deprived of their God given right to get married. They believe that arguments against same sex marriages are unconstitutional, and they simply do not justify a ban on same sex marriages. It is not the idea of two people of the same sex getting married that frightens people so much, but it is the thought of change and the fact that the federal government will redefine marriage to allow same sex unions. When people picture the results of same sex marriages, they see images of unstable homes. Everyone would probably agree that homosexuality has changed our society, and legalizing same sex marriages is not likely to be an exception. It would be an injustice to discriminate against a person if he or she were…
Cagan 1 Erica Cagan ENC1103.036/Prof. Bieze December 2, 2011 Word Count: 1147 Her Choice If a woman doesn’t have control over her own body, than does she have any control at all? Abortion has fostered one of the most controversial, contentious and ethical debates in the United States. People divide themselves into two groups: pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life argues that abortion is murder, and the mother has no right to take the life of a potential child. Prochoice “ refers to the political and ethical view that a woman should have complete right over her fertility and that she should have the freedom to decide whether she wants to continue or terminate her pregnancy” (Bose). In 1973, the Supreme Court made it possible for woman to obtain a legal abortion from well-trained medical surgeons which was a giant step forward for women’s rights (Pomeroy). Undertaking an abortion is a woman’s choice and any proposal to take away this autonomy not only violates a woman’s civil rights but would also cause many more problems in regards to a woman’s health. A woman’s autonomy is the one thing no one should be able to take away from her. Abortion is an extremely private matter that the government has no right to interfere in. If the civil rights of a person entitles him or her to not have unwanted infringements by the government and the government tells a woman that she cannot have an abortion, then is this not a violation of civil rights? Without abortion, woman would be condemned into pregnancy which “forces them into submissive roles in society” (Pomeroy). Pregnancy denounces women to “second class citizenship, since in our society, mothers are second class citizens. Once a woman becomes a…
Gay marriage and religion go hand and hand with each other. Religion is one of the main reasons that people are having a debate over gay marriage. Even with laws being passed, some churches still will not allow same-sex couples to be marry into their religion. Churches that are against gay marriage can have a choice to deny the people their right to be marry, but by doing so they will get punish with tax exempts and that their choice. Religions or churches should not interfere with the rights people to have when they get married. In the future, maybe all religions will be able to accept gay…
Try to imagine life in a society that refuses individuals to marry who they love. Imagine people being around their partners, but not having the legal rights to call them their wives or husbands. The fact of the matter is one does not have to try to imagine this because this is the state of current society. People can argue about whether church and state should be separated, the banning of polygamy, and not legalizing gay marriage, but the major importance is the institution of love (Sullivan). Gay marriage should not be opposed, but embraced by society with joy. Gay marriage should be legalized in the United States because denying this right is unfair and unconstitutional; marriage is not about money or judgment of society, but about a couple’s love for each other, and it will help reduce or solve social problems.…
I feel as though women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. Having to go through numerous trials to see if you are mentally capable of having an abortion is really unconscionable interference. There are many factors that contribute to why a mother-to-be would have an abortion. She could have been raped or not be financially ready to have a child. I 100% agree with women wanting to have one. There should be no ones opinion into her decision, if she wants to have one it should be solely her decision.…
The views that my group and I read about included Barack Obama and Mitt Romney’s views on the LBGT and same-sex marriage. I found that Mitt Romney came off as detached and removed in his support of the LBGT. It was almost as if he was just making the statement because he had. To make matters worse, Mitt Romney disagreed with same-sex marriage in statement although as governor of Massachusetts he seemed to be a supporter at the time. This makes him look like an abusive user, as he will seemingly say whatever it takes to receive the votes necessary for him to win. Someone like this does not seem trustworthy and can easily go back on any promises he makes. So why would I vote for him. Although, I do understand that this is how politics works. As governor of Massachusetts, he almost had to back same-sex privileges to gain support as a good percentage of the population was in support of the movement. Now as head presidential candidate for the Republican Party he must take on the ideas of the greater percentage of its…
I don’t mean to be offensive but it looks as if someone was deprived of women. Because even Animals don’t promote homosexuality.…
