Probation Officer Case Study
Statement to the Court and Probation Officer
My being arrested in this case, is a blessing in disguise. Ever since this has happened to me, it has changed my life drastically. I have been sober ever since this has happened. I was 2 months sober prior to my alcohol bracelet with SCRAM. I have been attending AA meetings regularly at least 3 times a week. I do stay busy at work at least 40 hours Monday thru Friday.
My drinking in alcohol in case has been a problem. This just didn’t happen overnight. Also, I don’t thoroughly understand why I have this problem. Initially, I’m sure the problem in part developed because of peer pressure.
I have come to realization that the harm of me drinking brings to myself and others. I know I gained support

My second group observation called Hope Seekers Group, Initiated with the facilitator Nadine introducing the new members that were joining for the first time. Nadine started by reading the declaration of Unity. “This we owe to A.A.’s future to place our common welfare first; to keep our fellowship united. For on A.A. unity depend our lives, and the lives of those to come.” She also advised the new comers that they were responsible for seeking help if they ever felt the need to drink and to consult with a sponsor for support during their struggles. During the meeting the members alongside Nadine were also celebrating one year of sobriety for a member named Cassandra. Cassandra was asked to share her story with the group and the newcomers, with…

Each and every single day, we walk past many different types of people that come from all walks of life and some who are the typical definition of “normal” that are battling addictions to alcohol. My eyes were opened up a great deal when I attended an open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting that had a guest speaker named James and if I would have walked past him on the street, I would have never known the internal battles that he has faced and does face everyday he gets up out of bed.…

The Collier County Probation Department received two negative media remarks in the past month. The media stated that the probation agency was soft on crime. The chief of probation decided to react to the situation by implementing stricter and more detailed presentence investigation reports. However, the chief of probation used personal leave and left Joan Casey the supervisor in charge of the department. Casey is in charge of responding to any inquiries presented by the media and is under pressure by the media and the chief of probation to make the right decision that will satisfy the public, media, and the chief of probation. The current case is pending final judgment and is about a 23-year-old man who murdered his stepfather and was a victim for many year of physical and incest abuse. However, other than the stepfather the man is not considered a risk to the public. The probation department is proposing intermediate sanction to the judge for the 23-year-old man. A well-known television anchor contacted Casey by phone to discuss the sentencing prior to the final judgment. In this particular situation Casey should avoid the reporter and not provided information when a judge has not made decision. Another reason Casey should avoid speaking to the anchor is because the news potentially could have a public reaction, thus making her agency a target for the media. Also there is no way that Casey could know if the anchor may report a negative remark and not support her departments sentencing proposal.…

“The Texas Myth” in history has been created by many Anglo historians in hopes of creating and perpetuating a history that supports the Anglo cause of expansion during early Texas history. Many of the early Texas historians such as Webb, Dobie, Haley, and Webber have provided many historical accounts as told from the Anglo perspective. However, new historians such as Volanto, Goldman and Ginn have provided new perspectives that have begun to challenge the traditionalist views of history. With different views of history, we can then begin to understand how other cultures have contributed to the creation of the Texan Identity and help in moving away from the Myth.…

I felt socially pressured by my other peers because I don’t drink in real life. I felt that it was wrong to drink because I have always told people that I dislike alcohol and the taste is never satisfying. But since this game was a drinking simulation, I decided to accept alcohol as it is and enjoy the party with everyone else. Once I understood the concept of how many chips I could receive after each visit at the bar, I continued to go back in line with my group of friends and got more alcohol. It was hard to stop drinking because I already developed the momentum of going back and forth to the bar. Drinking and socializing with others was a fun activity because it was a positive environment to be in. I enjoyed cracking jokes with my friends and bragging how many chips I received from the past visits at the bar. After a few drinks went by, the drinking game felt normal because everyone was doing the same thing. However, there were people who served jail time and had to go to a hospital for an injury due to the card that they had to draw from the bartender. While I was feeling empathy towards those who were in a bad situation, I couldn’t help but ignore them. In my perspective, I did not want to stop drinking because I wanted to continue to have fun while the party lasted. Why stop when the party must go on? Most of the time, I bail on hangouts and parties because I choose school work over socialization. Thus, I would always be labeled as “lame”, “boring”, or “party-pooper” since I choose not to have fun and be an outsider. But this time, I decided to let loose and go with the flow because there is rarely a time for busy college students (like me) to have fun and do things that are out of the…

Criminal Justice Major was not my first option; in fact I never even considered criminal justice. I was an undeclared freshman who hated school and was thinking about dropping out to work in the union. The only reason I went to college was because I received basketball scholarships to many schools and I wanted to continue the sport I loved to play. Talking to my family about this they obviously did not want me to drop out and they wanted me to continue school and get a diploma. That where my brother says at least go for 2 years and get a degree so you can become a cop if you don’t like the union. So the next semester I joined criminal justice and ever since then criminal justice has been a passion to me, thanks…

Alcohol addiction is one of the world’s worse dehumanization acts, and this is something that an individual does to his/her self. Addiction of itself can be called the failure of self-control (Johnson, R. A., Lukens, J. M., Kole, J. W., & Sisti, D. A. 2015). Most people are aware that they have an alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse is caused by irrational drinking (OON JUNG, C., & JANG-HAN, L. 2015). Studies show that addiction is recognized as a brain disease that is caused from exposure to drugs, environmental, social and economic factors (Volkow, N. D., & Li, T. 2005). A good way that can be solid in preventing an addiction such as alcohol is to be strong from the very beginning and say no, do not try to impress peers, even as tempting as the bottle may be, choose the right friends, or even hang out with people who share the same ideas as you have.…

    The Inner City Drug Problem

Aside from being among the most undesirable of places that a person could live, the inner cities of the United States are said to be a horrible gangland full of murder, prostitution, and drugs. While this description is overblown in some cases, the inner city definitely resembles the definition given. Inner cities across the country are havens for gangs and the activities that keep them financially viable: prostitution, robbery, and drugs. The focus of this paper will deal with the problem of drugs in the inner city. Rejecting a broad definition of “drugs,” that includes alcohol, cigarettes, and legal prescription drugs, I will be concentrating on the illicit “street drugs” that proliferate in the inner cities of the United States. In particular, this paper will deal with the inner city drug problem in the Chicago area.…
