Problem Solving Essay (School Dress Code)
Problem Solving Essay

I disagree with the school dress code because it doesn't allow people to express themselves, people can't dress for the weather, and it doesn't let people choose how they want to look because it's supposedly a distraction. The dress code is "The bottom of your shirt must at least meet the top of your pants or shorts, and undergarments should not be exposed. There must be a substantial covering over both shoulders. See-through clothing or clothing that is so very tight that it draws attention to oneself are also unacceptable. Shorts/skirts must have at least a 4" inseam." The dress code doesn't allow people to express themselves through what they wear. What people wear is what makes them different from everybody else. Most girls like to wear skimpier clothes that show their shoulders and stomachs, but this rule doesn't let them. Just because a shirt has profanity, vulgar suggestions, sexual connotations, drugs or alcohol on it, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be worn. People try expressing themselves through the slogans on their clothes. I don't feel anything is wrong with these shirts and I'm not offended by them, nor should anybody else be. Dressing for the weather is really important to do, especially when it's extremely hot out and there aren't air conditioners in the school that work properly. When it's hot people don't like to wear a lot of clothes. Seeing the shoulders of guys and girls in school isn't going to hurt anyone. They should just be able to wear spaghetti strap shirts, tube tops, single strap shirts and shirts that tie around the neck. Pants shouldn't be worn when it's hot, you can't concentrate on your work, because you are only thinking about how hot it is and how much longer until you can go home and put on clothes that make you feel less hot. Of course, no one wants to wear shorts that go down half way to their knees, they are just plain ugly and most stores only provide you with short shorts. What

The first reason the dress code is is bad is because the rules are ridiculous. The school system makes horrible rules for students, like girls not being able to show their shoulders. There is nothing wrong with a shoulder as long as the shirt does not go down too far to show anything, also not being able to show their bra strap. Everyone knows that most girls in high school wear bras. People make a big deal about girls wearing “spaghetti straps” because it is too revealing to the girl's shoulders. In the spring…

The purpose of the dress code is to have a better understanding that students do not come here to show off their style, but to come here to learn and get a better education. Students fail to realize the difference between dressing for success and dressing to impress. Dress code is nothing new to our society; many jobs require you to wear certain types of clothing or a uniform. Therefore, these schools are simply preparing their students to have a successful and bright future. Students should be more concerned about what they can learn, not what they can or cannot wear. Education is what motivates student’s people to the top of the platform their wardrobe. “Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul (Twain)”. Students should beware, their future will not depend on…

None of the schools I have attended had a uniform requirement and many students dressed in ways I found inappropriate. The private school I attended had a strict dress code but public school teachers often overlook the violation of dress code. School uniforms bring a more formal look; giving the school a better reputation and creating a sense of belonging among the students. My style is very diverse and reveals my general interests, whether it be nerdy shirts, girly clothing or vintage outfits from the 40's. Personally, I have always been comfortable in my clothing whether I fit in with others or not. In fact, I always prefer to look different and I have more than enough clothing to express my unique style. I do, however, have friends that always feel under pressure to wear the right clothing and often borrow clothes from me. It is reasons such as these why all schools should require uniforms. School uniforms may be the prominent aspect of our society’s road to success in educating its…

First, school uniforms vary in their appearance (School Uniforms). Most uniforms have the school’s colors, and a logo is sometimes added to enhance school spirit (Dress for Success). These uniforms make the students look more professional (Dress Codes) which helps out in the future if the students have required standards of what they have to wear to their future job (School Uniforms). School uniforms usually include khakies and a nice shirt for the boys and the girls’ apparel is very similar except they can choose if they want to wear a skirt or not (School Uniforms Outside the United States). Most uniforms also change with the seasons to make the school year more comfortable meaning the school may have short sleeved shirts in the…

Central high school should not have to wear uniform dress code because of these factors 1. The cost of having two wardrobes 2. the lack of individuality it gives the students and 3. the continue of bullying which is what most schools say is why they had dress code in the first place. Most students feel as if dress code is taking away the their freedoms and finding yet another way to to control their students.…

As I arrive at school, I hear girls behind me say, “Do you see what she is wearing, ew?” Everyday, I am bullied because of my attire. Because of the low income in my family, I do not always wear the most “stylish” outfits. Clothing type is one of the leading causes of bullying. Dorothy Espelage, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, says she has seen an increase in "bullying related to clothes.” I believe schools need to impose school uniforms. If school uniforms were enforced, equality would be promoted to all students. Also, the uniforms would not be distracting or flashy.…

I strongly disagree with the fact of the shorts dress code rule being 6 inches or mid-thigh because if your shorts are 6 inches and not mid-thigh you can be dress coded; also if you shorts are mid-thigh and not 6 inches you can again be dress coded. I believe it is unfair because it gets to the point of you not knowing if the shorts are in dress code that you have to wear jeans all year even when its 100 degrees out side. It is also very inconsistent with people getting dress coded and people getting warnings and not being sent in to be dress coded. I personally agree that students should not be wearing booty shorts to school because it is very inappropriate and not expectable, but I do not agree with the fact that some people get dress coded due to the fact that their teacher or a staff member is in a bad mood on day and the next time they wear the same shorts they don’t! In a way the issue can not be fixed but it can be discussed and more consistent. The fact that it can be one 6 inches or the other mid-thigh is logically not fair due to the fact that you do not know what one it has to be. Also you can only be dress coded a certain amount of times until there is extreme consequences. So you do not want to risk the fact of wearing shorts that you don’t know will be in dress code or will not be, and you just wear jeans even though it is extremely hot out side and you risk having a heat stroke. Therefore those are some reasons why the dress code rule for shorts which is 6 inches or mid-thigh is unfair and should be discussed. Even if the rule can not be entirely fixed whether you get dress coded or not, the fact of having the term “6 inches or mid-thigh” should be fixed so girls will know what they can go out and look for to wear to school because its not fair to go out and buy new shorts for school, then you figure out that they are out of dress code because they are not either 6…

Students get away with wearing many things that teachers wouldn’t identify as disruptive or hateful, but have a different meaning among students. For example, students wear shirts with pictures of tweets from parody twitter accounts specifically to offend other students. These tweets out of context mean nothing, allowing students wearing them serve as a disruption for the entire course of the school day without teachers knowledge. There are obviously issues with dress codes, but some still argue that students should have the power to dress as they…

Sometimes school forgets to think about the feelings of girls when they tell them that they are violating the dress code. The school administers has been rude about the dress code, and how they address the problem. Teachers has called out girls for their clothing, and they were rude instead of being polite by taking the girl aside and quietly talking to her (“Rosalind Classroom Conversation”). I don’t believe that the teachers are realizing they are being rude about telling the girls that they are violating a dress code, but before they say anything they should stop to think about the appropriate way to address the problem. When the school administrators call out girls for their dress code, the student who is being called out starts to feel…

When a girl gets told that her outfit is unsuitable to wear to school, her self esteem is dismantled from her. (Kate) In recent years, multiple girls have been punished because of the way they dress while attending school. Dress codes have taken a toll on how girls think about themselves as a person and the way they dress because of the fact that they might have to change due their outfit being “inappropriate.” Public schools should enforce dress codes but they should not be so strict so they do not embarrass children, body shame students, or push sexism toward one gender or another.…
