Problem Solving
Using the five steps from Ch. 5 of Thinking Critically, create a plan for solving a problem you are currently facing. For the last step, identify how you will determine the effectiveness of your chosen solution.
Step 1: What is the problem?
I need to start saving more, so I can buy a house.
Step 2: What are the alternatives? (List at least 3)
1. Organize my bills
2. Stop buying things I do not need
3. Open a savings account, so I can put money aside.
Step 3: What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of each alternative?
Advantages/Disadvantages 1. When you organize your bills, you know how much you can save at the end of the month. Disadvantage- When you don’t organize your bills, you spend money on unnecessary things and that’s when you have no money left.
2. Advantage- When you stop buying things you do not need, you can start saving more, and work out a budget plan. Disadvantage- You buy things and then you don’t have enough money for your bills. Then that’s when your bills will become late.
3. Advantage- Whenever you get paid, you can put money aside in your savings account, and start saving. Disadvantage-
Step 4: What is the solution?
The solution will be, it might be hard to start saving. But once you organize and prioritize your bills. You will be relieved and you can start trying to buy a house.
Step 5: How well is the solution working?
It’s difficult but I’m trying my hardest to save.
Write a 100- to 150- word reflection about this process.
How did this process help you devise a solution? In the chapter it stated “Sometimes exploring the various alternatives helps them go back and redefine the original problem; similarly, seeking to implement the solution can often suggest new alternatives”. (Chaffee, 2015)
How can you use this process with future
