States with a bigger population like California, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Iowa ect. have a higher amount of electoral votes. For example, California has 55 electoral votes and Utah has 6 and New York has 29 votes and Idaho has 4. This allows New York and California to easily sway the election while Utah and Idaho can’t even make a dent in the election. Because states like New York and California have a high amount of electoral votes candidates are going to work hard to gain those states and ignore the smaller states like Idaho who don’t have as many votes. This results in the smaller states feeling ignored, which results in a low voter turnout. The college is supposed to unite America but instead causes tension between the 2 political parties which can lead to violence. For example, this year during the 2016 election there were many fist fights and insults thrown between the parties. Trump, a republican, threw insults at Hillary Clinton, a democrat, and his insults ignited even more fights causing the the Republicans to fight the democrats. Hillary Clinton also exchanged insults with Trump making the Democrats angry and the causing the democrats to fight back. This resulted in a huge divide in America because both the parties were angry at each other.

Now that you’ve read about the electoral college, go out and spread the word so we can get rid of this unfair
