Obesity is one of the highest leading causes of death in the world. Most people struggle with disappointment and frustration with weight loss. Commonly, we are impatient, and want our fat melted away now. Americans spend millions of dollars a year on useless, so called miracle pills, or fat burning, movie star sponsored, elixirs. Even more money is spent going under the knife, whether it be a gastric bypass or the more common plastic surgery, like liposuction. There are others who choose even more dangerous methods, such as fasting. In my opinion, that's the same thing as starving yourself. Some people, such as myself, have hormonal deficiencies that make it even that much more difficult to shed those pounds. I know the frustration first hand. There are a few easy steps that you can do to safely start your journey to losing weight. Safely, is the key word here.
First, remember that you are unique. Just because something worked for your friend or their friend, doesn't mean it will work for you. Your body's genes are different. So it's best if you stay away from other people's fads. Listen and pay attention to what your body is telling you.
Secondly, and I can't express this enough, keep moving. I'm certainly not saying to try and run a marathon your first week. What I'm saying is that every step counts. Keep your body active. The goal here is to burn more than you consume. Your body is a machine; it's an amazing thing. Once you get your metabolism running, you will continue to burn calories even as you sleep! It needs fuel to run. However, too much intake, and not enough burning, causes the excess weight. Walking is a good place to start. If you park a little bit further away from the front door, start taking the stairs up to your office, or other things to get you moving a little more, you can slowly progress to walking around the block, etc.
Thirdly, remember your body needs premium fuel. You should be eating good
