This is one of the few moments in the narrative of pure love and comprehension. But it occurs in an instant when both father and son share with each other their lost faith in God.…
In the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), there is a man with two sons. When the sons grow up, the younger asks his father for his inheritance and goes off to experience life. This is an outrageous decision on the son’s behalf. He is going against his father’s rules and ideas. He spends all his family’s hard earned money indulging on parties, women and material objects. He tries to survive on his…
The father does everything to protect his son. The reason they are traveling to try and a find a better life for him. Throughout their journey he constantly tells him that they are the good guys; he is always making sure his son has food to eat, even if he’ll have a little or none; and watches over him until his last day. The following dialogues show that he has compassion towards his son: “What would you do if I died? If you died I would want to die too. So you could be with me? Yes. So I could be with you.” (11) and, “My job is to take care of you. I was appointed to do that by God. I will kill anyone who touches you. Do you understand?” (77). The father sees himself as a guardian angel for his son, and is willing to do anything, even kill, to make sure his son is safe. He would rather die than continue on without his son; he can’t bare to live without him since his son is what keeps him going, he is what keeps him sane. He has no mercy and empathy for others. For example, he makes a man strip his clothes off and takes them, as an act of punishment. The son has to convince him to return the cloths. All in all, the son is what gives the father a reason to rethink his actions, to have emotions, to be…

In this parable, one of the two sons left with half of his inheritance. After using it up and having nowhere to go, he saw the error of his ways and repented for his mistakes. The reaction of his father upset the other brother and complained why his brother receives such treatment after being such a disgrace. The reaction of the father and the two sons is an example of the Sacrament of Confession and pride. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the penitent must feel sorrow in order to go to confession. A priest who hears the confessions is like the father who ran to his son when he returned; they both forgive their children in a way from their faults after witnessing their struggle.…
In contrast, though voluntarily, Jesus must also suffer and die. Unlike man, he lacks the inner guilt of sin, therefore confidently bears the ‘full measure of agony’, merely confined to physical suffering. Death has overcome both. Though, Jesus dies only once and with death and therefore sin defeated, provides redemption by reconciling God and man.…
In a previous writing we looked at what it means to repent. Repentance was one of Jesus' chief messages spanning his entire ministry. Repentance was also an integral part of John's and the Church's message to the world. But what can we learn from Jesus about repentance by his teaching of the parable of the unjust steward, Luke 16:1-13?…
In the "Prodigal Son", the youngest son came home after forsaking his father, losing all his money, and starving and feeding pigs (the lowest job you could get). After his experience, he loved his father and knew he would have' to depend upon him for not just his wealth, but for his knowledge. This is also seen in "Powder". In "Powder", the father drives through a snowstorm and the son was terrified that they could not see the road. The son didn't think his father would be able to navigate through the storm. His father consolidates his son to calm his nerves.. The son talks to his dad and see how wise and calm he is. The son decides to relax and believe that his father can get him home…
ne Survivor: The eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the lost heroes of SEAL team 10 is a true story, that like most books about the SEALs, starts out for the most part with BUD/S. There is a bit of a lead up to this and it starts with Marcus Luttrell, the lone survivor, going through his tough, country style upbringing in Texas. At a very young age Luttrell decides he wants to become a Navy Seal, seeking out help and training from a former Green Beret named Billy Shelton.…

Many believe penance is a canon or law that ensures one’s salvation for conducting or carrying out acts that would be considered a sin either in the eyes of God, or in the eyes of the church as stated by Hunt…”the church still insisted that the shedding of blood was a sin requiring penance.” (Hunt, 2009. P322). Many believe pennance is one of those things where an individual is admitting to a weakness, or failure within themselves, which can make it very difficult to ask for. While some may look at it as a necessity, some may consider it not only embarrassing, but an admission that they are a bad person. Others may consider this a way that they can release themselves of any guilt from anything they may have done that wasn’t right in the eyes of God. As much as the church considered the Eucharist of major importance, so they did with penance. I believe this is why the church placed such a high importance on it, especially for the invaders who may have killed hundreds, to thousands of their enemy as it provided a way of forgiving their sins. Because God was not available to personally give them forgiveness, it was declared that priests and bishops could act on Gods behalf to provide salvation for those asking for forgiveness.…

Because he does that his parents do not think that they’ve caused him any harm, he states that in line 2. He is not a happy child. However it is like he finds some sort of redemption in his songs and ways of dancing. The child states again that his parents are gone to the church to praise God, and his priest and his king. Then in the final line he goes on to say that they make up a heaven of our misery. What does that mean? To the child heaven is not the paradise that one may be made to believe. It actually causes him pain. It symbolizes how the priest, God and the king exploit the children. The child is not fond of his parents, the priest, God or the king. The parents are not practicing proper Christianity. Of course in Christianity children are taught to honor and respect their parents. However, Jesus says in Luke 18:17 that anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter in it. A child is supposed to be precious and so are their characteristics. Unfortunately, the child’s Christian parents are not teaching or practicing…
