Group Research Project Development: Product Placement

1) For our focus group we would like to show a little extract of a movie or series ( Big Bang theory, James bond movie….).After that, we would like to do a tour question about product placement in general (Probing question, open ended questions):

What do you think of this segment of the series?

Have you seen it before?

Did you notice any brand product in the segment?

Which ones can you name?

Do you own any of these products?

And especially in this series/movie?

Which product would you like to buy?

Do you think there is a lot of product placement in this series/movie or less than in other movies?

What do you think about product placement?

Do you think product placement is effective?

Do you think it is effective on people?

After those questions, we would like to show some pictures about product placement, or and ask people what do they feel about the fact that a celebrity show him (her) self with that kind of product?
For Instance:

2) Logistic research

We’re going to do our data gathering thanks to internet, television, series and movies and finally the focus group. In fact, we’ll use those methods to help us answer to our problem statement. To do our focus group we’re going to need people of course because without them there is no focus group. We’ll also need a conference room with a video projector, audio equipment. Finally we’ll need an extract of a movie or series that we have found before.

3) Schedule of activities

From now until the end of November: Data collection and gathering.

1st December until the middle of December: writing the report.

The middle of December until the day before the presentation : Power point presentation.

Product Placement is an amazing marketing tool that marketers have utilized for quite a long time. Even though some may ague that it is still an innovative and clever way to promote a product, then there are those who also argue that product placement due to its expensive price tag associated with it is not really effective; well at least not as effective as the marketers expected due to the lack of memorization of the product in the movie to the viewer; but I 'll get into more of that later. But, first I would like to provide a better vision and understanding of what product placement really is. Also, why is it used by marketers? And, although at times it is deemed unsuccessful, it is mostly perceived at a successful and an effective maneuver by marketers; as long as they are able to reach their targeted segment (audience) by selecting the right movie to place their product or products in.…

Product placement is a promotional technique used by marketers in which a commercial product is used in fictional or non-fictional media, and the company of the product is an end result of an economic trade. Product placement is one of the marketing strategies used by the company to promote their products by not spending too much cost. This strategy seems to be more effective as it can attract the consumers’ attention unknowingly while they are enjoying their movies time, for example, rather than promoting the products commercially. Besides, it also can reach consumers in every level of age and provide positive and strong emotional feeling towards the advertised brand unconsciously, and then create an intention to buy the products. In addition, this type of marketing strategy needs the advertiser to be more creative in promoting brand or product so that the consumers or audiences will not get annoyed or boring with it.…

Businesses strategically place their brands and products in movies or in TV series to subtly get consumers to notice their brands, this is called brand placement. Two products which I have noticed in movies are Apple iMacs in the Twilight movie Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011) and Manolo Blahnik shoes in the Sex and the City Movie (2008). These were both big blockbuster hits which many people viewed and obsessed over. They both star very famous celebrities who play desirable characters. In the movies both the brands are clearly shown with the characters so the viewer will relate who the character is with the brand to give the brand symbolism (Levy, 1959).…
