INTASC standard five focuses on the application of content and it explains that the teacher fully understands and knows how to connect the content concepts to make learning relevant, engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and in applying content knowledge to real world problem. My artifact is a picture of an aluminum foil boat (The Richest Boat) that we had to create on Dr. Narayan’s class EDEE 4330. Dr. Narayan provides us with the material such as aluminum foil, pennies, a…
I believe my most important indicators of professionalism I posses are arriving early to work to prepare materials and ensuring that everything is in place for student’s arrival. I collaborate with my peer in planning of most skills using a daily routine. We discuss students’ goals and achievements and I make recommendations for future interventions. In my opinion, my ability to reach each learner brings about desired outcomes of student engagement. I have a high sense of efficacy and a passion for teaching. Therefore, I am constantly searching for best practices to implement in my classroom. I am willing to take more risks, set higher standards for myself and my students and provide the potential for higher academic gains among my students. Student learning is my responsibility and I…

Part three of the portfolio is about professional responsibility. It focuses on how professionals analyze and reflect on their practice. Teaching is different than most professions in which teachers have no established pathways for a promotion. It is up to the individual to participate in reflective practice, analyzing the good, the bad, and the improvements that can be made for the benefit of the students. Constant self-analysis and self-directed improvement are essential parts of a teacher’s job especially because instruction is going to vary year to year with each new group of students.…

“All too soon, I came to understand what hard work this was (Felsenfeld 626).” Those are the words stated by Daniel Felsenfeld in his narrative essay, “Rebel Music,” where he takes us through a personal journey of becoming a composer. He started off as being an “uninspired” 17-year-old boy taking piano lessons, who soon found he had a hidden passion for classical music that promptly turned into an epic career. For me, lacrosse was my piano lessons. At the young age of 13-years-old, I made the decision to be brave and join the local lacrosse team. When I began, I knew next to nothing about the game, but I soon fell in love with the trill of the sport. That year I bought my first lacrosse stick; it felt just like opening your first present on Christmas day. Not only did I adore it, but it taught me dedication, perseverance, and courage, three things I didn’t know I needed, but now have great understanding for.…
The first artifact that I uncovered was a cellular phone, an Android from Verizon. In 2012 cellular phones were very popular, especially smartphone, but they were mostly used for communication, and entertainment. Cellphones were the main source of technology, along with computers, and Ipods. In 2012 a cellular phone was more of a status symbol then technology, if you were given a flip phone on the “Metro PCS” or “T-Mobile” plan you were considered cheap or poor, but if you had the Iphone 4s on the “Verizon”, “AT&T”, or “Sprint” plan you were considered rich or stuck up.…

The original purpose of this theory is to enhance understanding of the professional lives of teachers through a systematic framework which organizes their professional development plans and how teachers continually evolve - how they assess their roles in the classroom, their effectiveness as teachers and the steps they take in their career development (Huberman, 1989). The model is framed into seven career stages and potential trajectories (i.e. Survival and Discovery, Stabilization, Experimentation, Stock-taking, Serenity, Conservatism, and Disengagement) taken by teachers during the course of their work life. His study attempted to predict later phases of teaching from earlier ones, anticipating types of beginnings that led to career crisis or else predicting which teachers would report ultimate phases of satisfaction or disenchantment during the final years of teaching. He defined the three major phases in teachers’ life cycles, as: 1) novice 2) mid-career and 3) late-career, to which accordingly in each of these three main phases are crucial sub-phases to be highlighted. Each career stage is thought to be a crucial period in the teacher lifecycle, comparable to lifecycle stages of an individual; for instance infancy, toddler, pre-schooler, adolescent and so…
